Nostr seems to be where all the kids who grew up in the 80s and 90s, and all the kids who wish they could have grown up in the 80s and 90s, hang out. I love it. 😂💜

I had an account here a few months back and lost my key, so here is my second attempt. You guys were so welcoming the first time around, here’s to my second try here on nostr!

Here is a random assortment of surf photography for my first post back!

Spent an hour looking at the moon and stars, trying to take some photos with an iPhone but the moon was kind of too bright. This one photo was interesting- it reflected the moon somehow and you can see the reflection on the bottom. The top is the actual moon, too bright to be picked up well. 2nd photo has a kiwi leaf 🍃 but I thought it was kind of neat (slightly filtered).

Is anyone here exclusively nostr? Or are you sharing your time with other social platforms?

I went back to X for to-the-minute election results. The algo and ads make it so, so noisy now. It had been a while.

I tried Threads, and the algo is so aggressive I only saw posts about gaming nostalgia, streamers asking for engagement, or people complaining about Bluesky.

Speaking of Bluesky - that feels a lot like early Twitter. A chronological timeline and no spam so far.

Nostr has the best tech tho. 🔥

Hey. Congrats on staying off social media so long. I stayed away for years after it turned into a marketing machine. You definitely picked the right place. I feel the same as you sometimes, “shouting into the void”, but the whole experience improves organically.

It’s important to follow people and they’ll follow you. You need to understand that the relays you choose need to be relays that other people are on if you want to see their content and you want them to see yours. If you find someone’s content interesting check out what relays they use and try it out. You’ll refine it over time. Set up a lightning wallet and setup zaps, a way to send a few sats via a person’s note or profile if you like it. Value 4 value. It’s alot of fun.

Often feels like that, people will say you should “engage more” but don’t fall into that trap. Embrace the void and eventually a client will come which surfaces posts from those you follow, regardless of engagement or recency bias

Instant bad vibes from scripted gpted “content”.

Of course, thousands of likes and bookmarks because it’s visually presented as something to collect for “when I need it later”. It’s such a fiat experience that it makes me sick 🤢

The copy was equivalent of an open mouth YouTube thumbnail, you could practically see it in the way ChatGPT presented it. Super clickbaity, optimized to hijack your senses.

This is indeed social MEDIA. A consumable bite sized format designed for one thing only - to grow your following.

Sadly, everyone on fiat platforms must play the game. It’s no longer a networking environment but a shouting match. Who can say the snarkiest thing or present the same exact information that has existed for decades in the most dumbed down way possible. Of course, embellished with nonsensical lies and fake stats.

Sorry to be a Debbie downer with this note, you’re worthy of more than this reflection on a toxic platform, but I just needed to share with someone.

I think I’m having a realization right now, that the value of nostr is not in the user count, but in the way we interact here, and I hope it never changes. Maybe we don’t need to grow at all. Why do we need clickbait content here? Let it live on those other scripted fake people platforms.
