Just re-read… haven’t watched Dir Cut, but will at some point you see what his vision was. Hoping it’s much better than the initial release.

This article by nostr:npub1l6uy9chxyn943cmylrmukd3uqdq8h623nt2gxfh4rruhdv64zpvsx6zvtg gives an excellent introduction to Ecash:

Chaumian Ecash implementations backed by Bitcoin are kicking up a lot of developer activity today, and for good reason: By reviving a well-studied technology we can offer ordinary people a new wave of usability improvements, making Bitcoin-powered payment systems more approachable to businesses and customers alike.

An Ecash mint issues Ecash notes in various denominations, which can be redeemed later at the mint for some fungible commodity or service (such as Bitcoin). This is conceptually very similar to the physical banks of ye olden days, which accepted deposits of some fungible asset like silver or gold, and issued physical cash (paper notes or metal coins) of various denominations in return, which could be used to reclaim the equivalent amount of the physical asset.

In the case of a Bitcoin-backed Ecash mint, the mint accepts Bitcoin deposits, and issues Ecash notes which can be redeemed for Bitcoin at a future time, for as long as the mint remains solvent and operating.

The basic principles of an Ecash mint are:

- Authenticity - The Ecash mint can be certain the Ecash notes it creates cannot be forged by others, so that when a depositor redeems a note, the mint is safe against fraudulent withdrawals.

- Fungibility - Depositors can be certain the Ecash notes they receive are anonymous and fungible. Instead of the mint giving a depositor a bearer token (which would have to be recognizable by the mint later when redeemed), the depositor cooperates with the mint to blind the Ecash notes they receive through a clever cryptographic protocol called blind signatures.

Any article you suggest, particularly an introduction, is appreciated and noted. Thanks!

Thankfully, foolishly, many think it’s foggy on the coast this time of year. Bodega Bay is not. Not all the time.

The appeal of price controls

Yes, we all know it's stupid policy and ultimately will create massive shortages, more government power and general poverty. But Kamala Harris is proposing it and there are political realities that we really need to think about.

Price controls come about politically because they are popular. People like getting stuff for less. In the short term, it makes people happy. They get something that they've been buying without the inflation. Sure, there will be less producers and deep government intervention and eventually scarcity of the product as they go into black markets if at all. But in the short term, when the producers haven't adjusted yet, the stuff looks like it's free and it helps the politician that imposed it.

The last guy to do price controls on food was Richard Nixon, and he had to do it because he suspended dollar convertibility. He had an election to win in 1972, so he implemented price controls. And guess what? He won in a landslide, because he mitigated the effects of the abandonment of the gold standard through price controls.

Long term, the price controls were a complete disaster. Theere were long lines at the gas stations, inflation went into hyperdrive and the productivity of the 70's was completely lost to stagflation. But it got him the election.

So while Kamala's political positions look stupid from the Bitcoiner point of view, don't underestimate its appeal to normies that don't understand economics. It's not as terrible a move as it seems.

So, ____ is desperate to win an election and is saying ______, which doesn’t make sense in reality, but sounds good and gets some votes. But TAYLOR, and NFL, and those scary people not like us…

Appreciate you providing more detail and still think 99% don’t understand. By Design.

Great game- haven’t played in a long time and the teens I see playing are more into the card collecting and trading. But they also aren’t true nerds. I tried getting back into it with my daughters… they had other interests I soon found out :)

They don’t call ‘em the #Dogstr days of summer for nothing!

Hope you’re relaxing as much as this guy on a sunny Sunday afternoon :)
