i’m irrationally disappointed that capybaras are not soft and fluffy to pet

\[quote\]

They even had a couple capybaras. I was amazed how rough the fur is, it feels like burlap.

using zk proofs for verification and selective revealing of identity attributes seems very promising over the long-term, and i hope someone else figures it out so we can just use it

yeah, we thought about using zk proofs someone in the protocol, but it was just too complicated for a first pass. the tech is too new and the people who write them are too few (i wrote a “hello world” circuit once at zcash; never again).

keeping it simple has served us well so far

i think @chercher.ai links to the webpage on his profile. you can input your username there to see

the wave of artists who migrated here, led by @faithlove.art , did seem to contain many artists who had sold their art as NFTs.

but i hope you guys will try to just enjoy the non-tokenized art here, or mute/block what you don’t like, rather than delighting in “bullying” other people.

our docs are a good starting point. but we still need to write up more user-friendly, non-dev explainers.

here’s a post i wrote redefining web3 as self-certifying — now i’ve mostly capitulated on redefining the term, but the “self-certifying” property is an important common thread to understand between all decentralized tech

that doesn’t mean blockchains are worthless (though i agree most apps don’t need a token). the user keys and merkle trees under the hood here are cryptographic primitives also used by blockchains — for atproto we recombined them in new ways that traded off some decentralization for efficiency.

that you don’t need a global network of computers working hard for global consensus to immutably store shitposts in an ordered log?

i’ve said this for years. blockchains have mostly proven useful for payments and identity, and most users prefer web1 systems like DNS because key management sucks

“what’s hot” is the stupidest possible algorithm ( >8 likes on any text post), so it’s reflecting whoever is active and upvoting each other at the moment. varies wildly depending on what slice of time you come in at.

you got here two days ago, are making things up for fun or on purpose?

there are actually network graphs that let you see the growth over time, you know. first wave was brazilians & japanese, then tpot, farsi speakers, artists, & then some crypto folks.

i think the gay brazilians were actually the first subgraph to really take over here. for a week nothing was in english

it’s possible, decentralized protocols like matrix have private rooms. it’s just a different set of complexity to consider so we put it off for now
