hackers using automated methods to guess the invite strings, which were too short for this level of demand.
we made them longer to make it much more expensive to guess them in an automated way.

the blockchain industry made a bad name for itself after a proliferation of scams, and blockchains themselves are composed of interesting and useful technologies people can be interested in without being scammers. both things are true.

using a tiny fingerprint to represent a lot of data is a really useful tool!
blockchains are basically just big collections of these fingerprints.
itâs not exclusive to blockchains though. we use a similar tool to make user data portable in ATP, without the âmining for coinsâ part of blockchains

ipld is a way to express data as a hash tree. the âtop hashâ in the picture below is basically a tiny fingerprint representing a lot of data that was compressed into it.
if anything in that bundle of data changes, the fingerprint changes.

this is a federated network and it hasnât even federated yet. the ceo (me) is staying up late personally resolving escalated moderation reports. our servers are on fire and we have to take them down periodically for maintenance. an unfixed bug has ruined countless peopleâs notifications all weekend

we are being transparent about what is and isnât very stressful work right now. we stayed up until 2am thursday through saturday working on moderation issues brought on by unexpected growth, and we still need to finish federation.

yes, anyone can create label sets, anyone can subscribe, and actions taken on subscribed label sets can vary.
people will label for all sorts of reasons, but users/servers only import labels that matter to them

thanks. this is an experiment. itâs not done. we built a protocol and an app in 1.4 years, have gotten unexpected traction, and need at least a few more months to flesh it out. yâall are here early. iâm not offended if some of you leave because itâs not ready.
