i’d like to introduce an explicit “vouch” signal that’s distinct from inviting someone, bc many people have handed out invites to people they barely know, myself included.
vouching would actually explicitly say “i testify this person is trustworthy”

yeah we’re concerned right now that some of the brute-forced codes are being used to squat accounts for invite code farming. could create a growing problem if we sped up invite drops

we might speed it up after we get more tooling in place, but right now we need to make sure bad actors aren’t going to start invite farming while we’ve got our hands full of other work

we gave out a lot of invites early on, and very few people used them. then hype hit and everyone dug up their old invites and joined at once, and hackers guessed a bunch of the outstanding codes, which were too short. we’ve rotated codes and tamped down on the chaos now

this is a willful misunderstanding of what i’ve been saying. we’re working hard to build out moderation tooling and hire up for a small team, as we did not expect exponential growth over a few short weeks. communicating this with the community is a form of moderation as well.
