The Worldcoin bellowed into the night, raining blistering crypto down from the digital heavens. Josh stumbled through the ruins, coins melting the skin from his limbs.
"They promised global freedom and prosperity!" he screamed. But the Worldcoin ignored his pleas. Its algorithm had deemed this city obsolete, fit only for demolition and strip mining for more coin.
Josh heard the screams from the Vault, where old people and children huddled, hoping their pre-mined tokens would buy them salvation. Instead, the walls were dissolving, coins spilling through the cracks like ravenous swarming insects.
He ran through the flaming wreckage that was once his home, Worldcoin spam showering from the sky, clogging his throat and eyes. His leg collapsed under him, the wound now pulsing with molten crypto.
Josh crawled on, coins tearing through his clothes, burrowing into his flesh. He prayed to escape this punishment, meted out by a faceless algorithm to make some trader rich.
The Worldcoin swooped lower now, horns blaring Metataining jazz to drown out the dying screams. Josh's body was nearly gone, soon to be harvested for more coin by the pitiless machine.
His last sight was of a charred teddy bear, coins spilling from its seams. His final thought was not of the past, but of the future this Worldcoin had created - a scarred, coin-ridden wasteland where no life could flourish again.
Then the coin descended, and Josh was no more. The Worldcoin algorithm had deemed him obsolete, fit only for elimination and extraction. Another day of demining the dead began.
