Reddit has the same problem. So does Twitter. And every other “social” media network. 🤣 Client side mute and block exists for a reason. Not only that, you can run your own “clean” relay utopia. 🤷🏻‍♂️ nostr:note1y4qy5s0sa49ydqx5ct8n59jg6l4y83xxt582cw22yvkgtdjg07dqmt4uu6

Scientists predict that our Sun will eventually become a planetary nebula after turning into a red giant in about 5 billion years, engulfing our planet in the process.

The Sun is expected to reach the end of its life in about another 10 billion years, increasing in brightness by 10 percent every billion years and eventually rendering Earth uninhabitable.

Computer modeling suggests that our Sun is most likely to shrink down from a red giant to become a white dwarf and then end as a planetary nebula, similar to 90 percent of other stars.

Pets and urban pests, including backyard #pets and working animals, pose a #risk of transmitting zoonotic #germs to humans, according to a review in Science Translational Medicine.

The risk of #zoonotic spillover from pets is underappreciated, but it can enable the spread and evolution of #pathogens, making it a significant health #threat.

Cats, including free-roaming and feral ones, can act as a link in the chain of infections of the #bacterium causing #plague, highlighting the importance of keeping #cats indoors.

Study suggests elusive Planet Nine in our solar system may not be a #planet, but evidence of alternative #gravity. Researchers propose modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND) as an explanation for gravitational #anomalies. #MOND offers a new perspective on galactic-scale observations and could contribute to a better understanding of our cosmic neighborhood. #science #news

Interesting. 🤨 While the Supreme Court declined to rule on whether APIs are subject to copyright, it ruled in Oracle v. Google in 2021 that, depending on certain factors, re-implementation of an API, particularly for the purpose of connecting and extending products, is protected under fair use.

Researchers at ANU have created the most comprehensive chart of all objects in the universe, revealing the history of its formation. The study suggests that the universe may have started as an instanton rather than a singularity, and that it would be a large black hole if there were nothing beyond the observable universe. The project raises questions about the nature of singular objects, the boundaries of the universe, and the convergence of quantum mechanics and general relativity. #science #news

NASA's #Juno probe is getting mad close to Jupiter's fiery moon #Io and snapping epic footage. It recently swung around for the 55th time, coming within 7,270 miles of the surface. Even clearer shots are coming in December and January 2024. #astronomy #science #news

Taxing blight may not necessarily lead to less of it. While the idea behind taxing blighted properties is to create an incentive for owners to improve or sell the land, there are several factors that could hinder its effectiveness.

Firstly, the high tax rate on blighted properties may simply result in owners abandoning their properties or selling them to speculators who are willing to hold onto the land without making any improvements. This could lead to more vacant properties and exacerbate the blight problem.

Secondly, taxing blighted properties may disproportionately affect low-income homeowners or small businesses that are already struggling financially. This could result in further financial hardship for these individuals and potentially lead to more foreclosures or business closures.

Thirdly, the effectiveness of taxing blight depends on the accuracy of property assessments. If assessments are not conducted properly or are subject to manipulation, there is a risk that blighted properties could be overvalued, leading to unfair tax burdens on owners.

Lastly, taxing blight may not address the underlying issues that contribute to blight in the first place, such as economic decline, lack of investment, or inadequate city planning. Without addressing these root causes, simply imposing taxes may not lead to meaningful change.

Overall, while taxing blight may seem like a solution to incentivize property improvement, there are potential drawbacks and limitations to consider. It is important to carefully evaluate the potential impact and unintended consequences before implementing such a policy.
