[BrowserAudit.com](https://browseraudit.com) is a good website for running over 400 tests on your current browser to see how well it protects your privacy.

After the test runs, you can open the results link and examine what tests failed or gave a warning.

The results in this picture were from UnGoogled-Chromium running these extensions:

The one test failed because cookies created with Javascript were able to be sent over unencrypted HTTP in spite of the browser being set to "Always use secure connections".

# Setting Up Fonts in Linux

Here are 3 thing you can do to help bring standardized fonts to Linux systems.

1. **Install Linux Mint** fonts on your system. Fonts can vary from Linyx distro to Linux distro. Since Mint and Ubuntu are the most common, installing fonts used in those distros will generally make your system more "Linux standardized". See the bottom of this post to see how to do this because that command line is too big to put here.

2. **Install freeware MS fonts.** This will bring in the earliest MS fonts, but not anything from Win8, Win10, or Win11. To do this type:

sudo apt install ttf-mscorefonts-installer

```

3. **Copy Win fonts from a MS Win 10/11 computer.** Install them onto your Linux Machine.

a. **Copy all the fonts from C:/Windows/Fonts onto a flash drive**. (A Ventoy Live USB drive works great for this if you use Ventoy to install Linux)

b. **Find where your Linux system stores fonts.** (/usr/share/fonts in Debian)

c. **Create folder for the MS fonts**

cd /usr/share/fonts/truetype

sudo mkdir winfonts

sudo cd winfonts

```

d. **Copy fonts from USB stick.** l (the "/media/user/drive/Fonts" will be different on your system)

sudo cp /media/user/drive/Fonts/*.ttf

sudo chmod 644 *.ttf

sudo mkfontdir

sudo fc-cache

```

# Install Default Mint Fonts on Other Linux Distros

To install the Linux MInt fonts (which should be the same a Ubuntu) you type in this command:

If a certain font is not available in your distro's repository, remove it from the command below. For example, MX Linux does not have fonts-khmeros-core, so you would remove that.

[Beyond Compare](https://www.scootersoftware.com/) is an excellent compare tool that can run in Linux. It is perfect for syncing and merging files like pictures and videos between phones, computers and backup drives.

Beyond Compare is not FOSS, but of all the compare tools available for Linux, this one has the most features, and handles heavy workloads the best.

Features:

- Compares files, both binary and text, and it has amazing side-by-side text comparison features.

- Compare, sync & merge folders and files.

- Detailed image compare tool, down to the last pixel. There are better photo compare tools, but if you want to compare down to the pixel, this is the tool.

You can download the .deb file from 👉 [Scooter Software](https://www.scootersoftware.com/download), which will set up the PPA during install, & integrate it's right-click context menu options into the Nautilus and Nemo file managers.

# Brave Browser (HIGH Spyware)

Brave is a favorite browser among those trying to escape all the spying and tracking forced on us by Big Tech, but it still has a little spyware in it.

It is ranked with a spyware level of HIGH at neocities dot org, which is the same as Firefox.

CAUTION: Set ChrootDirectory to "/ " if you want to access the /media folder for external mounted mediain adition to /home, but this exposes you entire system.

3. Create an sftp user's group. I use "Users and Groups" for this. The program name is users-admin and you get that by installing `gnome-system-tools`

4. Add your user to the sftp user group. Once again, I use "Users and Groups"

5. Get the IP address for computer running SFTP server. You can get this with "ifconfig" or "ip addr" commands.

6. Connect using IP address as hostname, and login with the username/password of account you added to the sftp user group.

Use "sftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" in the "Files" app to connect, where x's are IP address.

FreeCAD, another open source CAD program available for Linux, is a general purpose CAD/CAE program.

It is good for mechanical engineering product design, with tools similar to Solidworks, Catia or Solid Edge.

Siemens NX CAD is another good professional, proprietary, non-free CAD program that is available for Linux.

The Siemens NX system is more than CAD software, it is a Product Lifecycle Management system, designed to take corparate level products through the entire lifescycle, from deveopment to mass production.

Siemens NX CAD is not something the average person would use, as it costs anywhere from $500/month to $1000/month per seat/person. This is software for larger companies or entities.

AutoDesk can't seem to get their act together and offer a good Linux version.

Thankfully there is BricsCAD, which is one of the great professional replacements for AutoCAD.

Unfortunately BricsCAD is proprietary software. While it may not be open source freedom software (OSFS), it is professional grade software, and many pros prefer it over AutoCAD.
