Libbitcoin Server (bs) and Libbitcoin Explorer (bx) are powerful tools. Bx is lightning quick and even does tx lookup while its still syncing. I don't think it replaces a node, meaning uncertain wallets are designed to use bs, though you can develop your own to use it.
