After Hamilton Mountain, I climbed the 105 year old trail blasted into the side of Beacon Rock. This 1.5 mile hike was extremely cool. Switchbacks with wooden planked bridges and metal handrails pretty much the whole way up. Great views of the Columbia River Gorge.

Hiked two trails for the first time this morning on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge. First was Hamilton Mountain. Upper Rodney Falls looked awesome predawn. The trail was very well maintained with lots of bridges and stairs. Made it a loop and came

back on the Hardy Creek trail.

I’m not a doctor but I believe this to be true. My wife nostr:npub15w3hr7jg9mwkhawunccexrltggxyvw20x9day7j7axpaf66whwssawpk9f may have died of complications from COVID had she not spent the last 5 days in the hospital. She developed a large pericardial effusion (fluid around the heart) that was likely caused by a virus, after having COVID in May, which caused bronchitis in June. (1/2)

I’m so thankful for the medical professionals at Kaiser Westside and Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Centers! They finally found the right cocktail of 5 over the counter, prescription generic, and name-brand drugs to stabilize her. She’s back home and recovering now, I’m so glad. COVID is not over! (2/2)

Hiked to Larch Mountain from the Yacolt Burn trailhead this morning. I finally broke the mental barrier of crossing over into Washington state for day hikes. I was looking to explore more of the Tarbell Trail to see if there are more potential campsites and water sources. I did find a decent campsite along Cold Creek. I feel like I need to backpack in this area again and camp at least one night on Silver Star Mountain.

nostr:npub17zw8hk7r0qfhhtluw7te4t04su7gp9n8ks5velv2ezuqjlgglqqqtkxynm Siri is useless a lot of the time but is also very capable in certain situations. I hike long hours and use Siri to change the volume, seek in songs, albums, and podcasts, and send texts. I would hate to live without it. All these now work offline as well, some upgrades in the last year. Reminders has also gained Siri functionality recently.

Check out this 2021 video from my local library. Apparently you can check out baking pans, a croquet set, a soprano ukelele, a commercial-grade popcorn machine, an electric pressure washer, and tons of other things. Who knew? 🤯
