Very exciting! Congrats Robin and the @bfl_ml team (of Stable Diffusion fame) on the launch!

The open sourced FLUX.1 image gen model looks very strong, main page with examples:

Foundational GenAI models are becoming a commodity.

Any sensible GenAI application will be (if not already) architected so it can swap this model to use the one that works best/is the best price-for-value for its use case.

Hard to see any vendor making a profit off just those.

Heartbreaking. Niall was a gem. One of few people to significantly advance the types of work we can do in the browser.

Sending all the love I can to his family and friends

ITT: People who think they know more about OBS than me, the guy who worked at Twitch for 5 years, built a competitor to OBS while there, helped integrate the VOD track, and streams with one of the most thought out video pipelines on Twitch

Do you remember when the mad hordes burned Kenosha, Wisconsin? They burned it because an armed rapist who had returned to the home of his victim in order to harass her and threaten her children, resisted the officers whom she had called and who had a warrant for his arrest and was shot and injured during the struggle.

As he recovered in the hospital Kamala Harris visited and called him, and told him how proud she was of him.

How to get cracked at systematic thinking:

Pick a difficult complex project

Break it down into its most fundamental “legos” so you could assemble the entire project using only bite sized parts—each, in and of itself, a simple and easy part.

Repeat the next day w a new project

Scam JavaScript conferences alert:

The below conferences ("We love JS {City}" "Europe JS {City}") are 99.99% that they are scams and cheap money grab attempts.

Listed on a website linked to DevTernity organizers (of course!)

Do your due diligence if a conference exists!

Sad.

Actually this was really good - a tour from one transistor to a small CPU (Scott CPU, to be precise).

The YouTube playlist:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=HaBMAD-Dr8M&list=PLnAxReCloSeTJc8ZGogzjtCtXl_eE6yzA&index=1…

I also haven't yet come across the "But How Do It Know" by Scott, which this is based on, and which looks great:

https://amazon.com/But-How-Know-Principles-Computers/dp/0615303765…

Turns out this is a whole deeper rabbit hole of people who've also built + simulated it in code, e.g.:

https://djharper.dev/post/2019/05/21/i-dont-know-how-cpus-work-so-i-simulated-one-in-code/…

Now I must resist the temptation to simulate Scott CPU in C, add tensor cores to it, move it to an FPGA and get it to inference a Llama.

This is not a Photoshop

...I actually made it in Affinity Photo, which is like Photoshop but way cheaper (on sale for $50 for LIFE)
