There’s nothing “weird” about it.

Decentralisation comes with clear drawbacks in the marketplace. Nostr may be superior technically, in almost EVERY way, but there is no coordinated communications effort.

I posted about this two weeks ago, and half the responses were: “oh you’re too bearish on Nostr” or “look at all the cool tech we’re building”.

And that’s precisely my point. The focus has ALL been on the tech (and rightly so). But my entire argument was that the gaze needs to begin to shift towards communications & go to market. There’s no point building the coolest car if nobody knows about it.

Twitter/X getting banned is hardly newsworthy. Banning VPNs (virtual private networks) and fining the people who use them is true censorship and an affront to Democracy.

Why? You see, you can determine that a person is using a VPN service, but you can't tell what website they're accessing. That's the whole point. So punishing a person just because they want to watch the Japanese version of Netflix is pure evil.

Here’s the series of events that led me to Nostr, in chronological order:

- tried to pay for X's blue checkmark but was unable to do so without linking my bank account, instead of paying with a card.

- read the terms of connecting my bank account and realized I would have to agree to share my account number, routing number, interest rate, recent transaction history, etc. No way I was agreeing to that, so I closed the tab.
