“The late Dr. R. W. Dale, the great preacher of Birmingham, described how one day, while he was writing an Easter sermon, the fact of the Resurrection broke in upon him as it had never done before.

“ ‘Christ is alive,’ I said to myself: ‘alive!’ and then I paused: ‘alive!’ and then I paused again; ‘alive! Can that really be true? Living as really as I myself am?’ I got up and walked about repeating, ‘Christ is living! Christ is living!’ At first it seemed strange and hardly true, but at last it came upon me as a burst of sudden glory.”

“The discrepancy between the depth and sanity of Jesus’ moral teaching and the rampant megalomania which must lie behind his theological teaching unless he is indeed God has never been satisfactorily explained.”

C. S. Lewis

“Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself for service and have them recline at table, and he will come and serve them”. (Luke 12:37)

More wine? A second helping? If you belong to Jesus by faith, one day he will ask you personally.

not too bad for 10 years old

whenever someone makes a lame attempt to discredit Christianity...i feel in my soul something along the lines of: Christ is my shepherd man. he's the promised bridegroom; my comforter; a genius. gentle and lowly...he's the fulfillment of every page of my Old testament. i have found in Jesus the one in whom my soul delights. . . and you're gonna say he's not buddy? c'mon.

holiness is the secret to happiness

Heidelberg catechism question 28: how does the knowledge of God‘s creation and providence help us?

Answer: we can be patient when things go against us, thankful when things go well, and for the future, we can have good confidence in our faithful God and father, that nothing will separate us from his love.

“On the one side clear, definite moral teaching. On the other, claims, which, if not true, are those of a megalomaniac, compared with whom Hitler was the most sane and humble of men. There is no half way house and there is no parallel in other religions. If you had gone to Buddha and asked him, ‘Are you the son of Brahman?’ he would have said ‘My son, you are in the vale of illusion.’ If you had gone to Socrates and asked ‘Are you Zeus?’ he would have laughed at you. If you had gone to Mohammed and asked ‘Are you Allah?’ he would first have rent his clothes and (might) then cut your head off. If you had asked Confucius ‘Are you heaven?’ I think he would have probably replied, ‘Remarks which are not in accordance with nature are in bad taste.’ . . The idea of a great moral teacher saying what Christ said is out of the question. In my opinion, the only person who can say that sort of thing is either God or a complete lunatic suffering from that form of delusion which undermines the whole mind of man.”

C. S. Lewis

preface to the 1611 KJV:

But now what piety without truth? What truth, what saving truth, without the word of God? The Scriptures we are commanded to search. They can make us wise unto salvation. If we be ignorant, they will instruct us.

If we are in the wilderness, they will bring us home. If we are out of order, they will reform us. If we are suffering, they will comfort us. If we are dull, they will quicken us. If we are cold, the Scriptures will set us on fire.

The Word of God is not only an armor, but also a whole armory of weapons, both offensive and defensive; whereby we may save ourselves, and put the enemy to flight.

It is not an herb, but a tree, or rather a whole paradise of trees of life, which bring forth fruit every month, and the fruit thereof is for food, and the leaves for medicine.

The Scriptures are an entire shower of heavenly bread sufficient for a whole host, a whole cellar full of oil vessels; whereby all our necessities may be provided for, and our debt discharged.

It is a physicians shop of preservatives against poisoned heresies; a complete body of laws profitable for rebellious spirits; It is a treasury of costly jewels!

Finally, the Scriptures are a fountain of most pure water springing up into everlasting life. They are not from earth, but from heaven. The author is God, not man.

The end and reward of the study thereof, is fellowship with the saints, participation of the heavenly nature, fruition of an inheritance immortal, undefiled, and that never shall fade away: Happy is the man that the delights in the scripture, and thrice happy that meditates on it day and night.
