Holy shit! This!!!
I've struggled to put into words why I end up on the adventures in my life, and it is exactly this - I have the vision, just a few general concepts about the future, really - and a provisional plan of how to get there (sometimes very detailed, actually - but always flexible and subject to change), but I often change the plan along the way, or something else happens, and adventure ensues.
I also struggle to follow anyone who doesn't share their vision with me, and have blamed it on their failure to plan - but really it is their failure to communicate the vision, I think. I bet I'm just as guilty of keeping my visions to myself and frustrating others that would otherwise follow.
Thanks boho - this made my day! 🫂
Spending this noon hour sitting in the grass of a portland empty lot. Waiting for a family member's dr appt to be over. No hat. No sunglasses. Blue skies. There is a handicap bus across the street, parked on the grass, with a guy playing electric guitar badly, and a lady in a motorized wheelchair (young and relatively fit, from what I can tell, but I'm not that close, probably parapalegic), kind of driving it around lethargically in circles.
Just people enjoying this hour of their lives.
Anything that Coinbase is doing for you with respect to Bitcoin is done better elsewhere, by companies not profitting off of a crypto casino model. Coinbase incentivizes you to play silly games, and we all know what that will win you.
Gm nostr. Committed to slacking off today, wherever possible.
Gn nostr. Still making incremental progress in my return to linux. Small steps. It's been a long time.
Can you help me promote our upcoming Colorado Springs meetup?

I may actually be there, over 1300 miles from home, on that day. How wild! Will be on my way to Pueblo, and wasn't planning to be riding through the Springs until a few hours later in the day, but it is possible...
Yay. It is something you might do in carpentry, ensuring proper fitment or alignment.
Have had fireweed honwy, can recommend.
I might be up for that. Been a long time since I've bought artisan ceramics. Will give me something to think about anyway!
A little silly incremental improvement - for the last year and a half, my primary eating plate (probably 90% of my food intake) has been a sea to summit plastic plate/bowl. I've had it for maybe a decade, but the bottom warped up a little bit, probably in the microwave, a long time ago, so it wasn't used much until I started just cooking my own steaks all the time and wanting all the drippings.
But I'm trying to move away from plastics in at least some ways, and I know the bottom of that plate has seen better days after heavy use with a steak knife. So, picked up a ceramic plate and bowl at Walmart. Curious to see how I like using a serrated steak knife on ceramic. This was a flat glaze, but I don't doubt it is coated with some bullshit - still, hopefully a step up from plastic. I may also try a glossier glaze. I might try a wood option, but I'm concerned about what my knife would do to it over time. The idea of just a cutting board doesn't appeal to me, because I do often have several ounces of fats/juices that I want to enjoy with my steak.
Any thoughts as to the best all around eating vessel for enjoying my daily steaks? #asknostr
Today's meat - 3 chuck roasts and a london broil for ~ $78, a little less than 14 lbs of beef. actual average price per pound, $5.69. This is roughly a week's worth of meat, now all sliced up into steaks and mostly in my freezer. How many of you are eating on $80/wk?
Also bought 4 lbs of bacon ends & pieces for $10, but those are mostly for my wife.
I've been eating a lot of butter lately. I snack on it, just little slivers - cut a pat off, then cut it into 4-5 pieces. But I've been eating 1-2 4oz blocks per day. That's probably too much.
The binge didn't quite end with shopping - got a couple donuts and a 40oz bottle of cold brew coffee (unsweetened) to finish it off.
The psychology swimming around my head today, though! Went dark a couple times. This addiction shit sucks. Managed to work my way out of it, literally - lots of little household/mechanical chores and fixes (mostly work out in the garage). That's always been my go-to - start tinkering around with tools on projects, mainly for other people's benefit, and let the thoughts run themselves through. Not ignoring them, accepting them, and giving myself a way to move on.
Well, today hasn't started so great. I'm not one of those carnivore zealots that will tell you they've been carnivore for 821 days and never cheated once. Nope. I've cheated plenty, and I lost count of days very early on. Let's say I've been trying to eat a meat-based diet for almost a year and a half. And I've done fairly well at trying. I don't plan cheat days, although I used to allow a weekly donut or two on my shopping day.
Today, I went to the kitchen to make a power bowl (my recipe at the bottom of this), and someone had left a box of donuts in the dining room. I live in a house of 8 - extended family, multi-generational. I'm the only one even close to carnivore. Well, that it like leaving a plate of coke out... I'm now 4 donuts in, some peanut butter, pancake syrup, honey... two cups of coffee... basically a full-on binge of all the shit I've struggled with giving up. Do I feel good? No, but not horrible either. Did I make and eat my power bowl? Fuck yes.
So this is my accountability. Clearly that shit is way off the path for me. It probably won't kill me, but it won't keep me alive either. I didn't go smoke a cigarette, because I still don't want to live in withdrawal every day, but the fact is, I still do - just from sugar instead of nicotine. Yes, every damn day. Tell me again what is the worse addiction, nicotine or sugar? Think real fucking hard. I know my answer.
Power bowl: my standard is 1/2 lb of 80/20 ground beef, 5 eggs, salt, shredded cheese. Butter. Start by browning the ground beef with a hunk of butter in a frying pan. Do not drain. Add some salt. Cover. Once the beef is browned and chunked up into bits, (it can still be a little pink on the insides, if you like), crack 5 eggs over the beef. Break the yokes. Stir it up a few times with a spatula to get even distribution. Keep covered in between stirrings. When eggs are almost fully set, turn off heat, add some cheese (and maybe another hunk if butter) to the top, and cover. Once cheese is melted, spatula out into a big bowl and eat. Add more salt if you want.
The eggs should suck up most of the grease. If they don't, maybe my dog gets a greasy bowl to clean out when I am done.
I don't always add cheese, just if it is around. My guts are a little sensitive to it, but usually I will pay that price. I do often add other meats - sausage, liver, bacon, ham, spam, whatever is around. Today I added some bacon ends. I vary the egg count sometimes, but usually average 5 eggs. That fits nice in the pan, bowl, and stomach. And I try to wait until 10am to make them, but don't always succeed. I've made them in the afternoons and evenings as well, although I usually try not to eat after 4pm.
Power bowls are one thing I make that I can feed to most of my household, regardless of whatever food habits they might have. No vegetarians here at this time, thank goodness. I won't trick them with adding organ meats, but I will change it up occassionally - made my son a bowl with hot dogs instead of ground beef a few weeks back, as that is what I had defrosted and ready to go.
I usually only eat them on the weekends, and haven't had them as much as eggs have been expensive and I haven't felt like bugging my neighbor for fresh eggs. But there was a sale this week, so power bowls were back on the menu.
Cheers!
Gm. Probably a lazy Sunday, but not too lazy...
Gn. I admit I am envious of my dog's sleep abilities.
Went to Olive Garden to celebrate my son's team win (12-4) on the soccer field. No Olive Gardens near us, so since we were near one for the game, took the opportunity. My wife is a spaghetti fiend, so a nice gesture all around.
Our waiter was spectacular. A great experience. However, that menu must be the least carnivore/low-carb friendly I've seen. Two choices, a six-ounce steak, or fish. I took the steak.
I assume it was cooked in soybean oil, as their dietary/allergy disclaimer (I read it) stated that they don't consider soybean oil an allergen, beacause the guvmint doesn't, and so their allergen checklist doesn't include it. However just abot everything (including the meat sauce) show that they contain soy.
Oh well. I'll get over it - but won't be returning to an Olive Garden anytime soon, unless dragged there by the wife.
Fixed. Compared to Oatmeal, SPAM is a health food.
Gm. Back to being a soccer dad today.
Gn. Today has been a solid mix of everything. I'm okay with that. Putting my life on shuffle is better than putting it on repeat, I think.
Gn. Planning on taking some time to evaluate moving back to linux as a primary desktop OS. Also looking closely at all my digital use cases. Very close to pissing off some family by exiting certain platforms.
