For the reason #[3] stated. Bitcoin was the discovery. It was the breakthrough. Everything else just wants to be the better, faster, greener, whatever version. They could be building on top of bitcoin, but they only think of it like a tech product, and they all just want their exit.

Yes, that’s exactly what I would have said next. #[3] Your friends may be exchanging random tokens with each other but that doesn’t mean any of them stand a chance at becoming the next global reserve currency and universal medium of exchange. They’re just collectibles or trinkets, and their value in bitcoin terms will only decline over time. Ultimately, there’s only a need for one monetary standard once you remove fiat from the picture.

Sure, I agree, that there should be one. I am just not hell-bent it being BTC. I am not against Bitcoin in any way. Just arguing for innovation, instead of against BTC.

So you’d argue Proof of Work is the future? Not Proof of Stake?

Not personally used Bitcoin Cash and Monero myself, but I used to use Solana and Litecoin for a lot of transactions between the CEXs, as they were much faster and had way lower fees than Bitcoin

Seeing a lot of people here talking about Bitcoin as it is the only cryptocurrency running on blockchain. I’d argue that Ethereum and Bitcoin are gonna be the VHS and DVD in the future, they were great for their time, but better innovation came along and overtook it

It took decades for the telephone to become a standard home appliance. People usually point to a new technology adoption curve graph like this one. Bitcoin is gaining momentum faster than even the Internet did.

It’s not just Bitcoin though. Most of my crypto friends never use bitcoin itself when doing transactions or anything. Saying “Bitcoin” but meaning cryptocurrencies as a whole is misleading

Bitcoin was not a first mover. It was a culmination of many decades of work and tries of various digital currencies. Being the first mover isn’t the argument for it as you can see in my post.

It was the first one that really worked because all components came together, that is true and this is why it became and stayed dominant. But notice it’s not the firstness that matters. It’s the all components that matters. The firstness is just a side effect so to say.

In order for Bitcoin to lose we would need a paradigm shift, not incremental changes (not even improvements) like altcoins try. For example, if society changed fundamentally where money is not a thing anymore, not because of barter but some other fundamental reason.

I’m just not as big of a Bitcoin Maxi as you are. Curious how it works itself out in the future. Neutral/Bearish on Bitcoin personally
