I always found that DNS was an issue with the Fediverse. It seemed to me your instance could be closed any time by the State.

One suggestion I had with the devs back then was to use IPFS for file sharing. I don't know if this happened or if files are simply uploaded to some websites.
An alternative was to use Base64 in notes to share files but that seemed like a rather bad idea.
