Honoring memory, provenance and safeguarding design history and building relationships from structural blindness since 1999. Evidence-based, covenantal work in exile. Resisting distortion. TIME Invention of the Year

You don’t want your enemies to hate you for what you stand for.

You want them to hate you because you’re too important to be defeated.

You can’t guarantee your users experiences will be prioritized above the experiences of your employees if you don’t know how to prioritize the experiences of your employees above your own.

People only want to know how things work up until the point that it bursts their territorial reality bubble that defines the way their fragile ideals gives them permission to understand the way the world actually works.

The problem with writing publicly about our work is that the public expects explanations that fit their skeptical narratives about what it means to build something so the explanation becomes 50 times the work with zero reward.

We have very technical ways of building things that are tried and proven and don’t need the validation of the public. It’s why most engineers don’t bother tweeting about anything other than what they had for dinner.

The better you get as an Apple designer, the better you get at writing security descriptions into building code because Applications at Apple are written as building code, like giant architectural plans that will go into affect as soon as your product goes live in a factory sealed 📦 when you go to buy your Mac 💻.

Apple is the largest standards body in the world

(Standards security clearances required of EVERY Apple designer working on hardware and software experiences)

Once you have taken your oaths on the Apple design team, there are no amount of chill pills, medication, alcohol or substances that will ever get you to 'forget' about things you could be doing to improve upon International development security.

Once your nightmares about threats to international development security become a part of the way you define work and prioritize bugs, you will never again be qualified for a 'regular job'.

A person who has nightmares about not being able to do anything about threats to international development security is someone who has more work on their plate than they know how to handle.

They aren’t someone you condescend, they’re someone you ask about ways you can help.

When the freedom to innovate is outlawed, not even those who are set in their ways will be free.

There aren't technical descriptions for the type of design work I do in most areas of the world because language security compliance plays such a foundational role. So its easy for people to write the way I talk and write off as 'delusional' so it doesn't require any extra effort on their part to try and actually understand what I'm talking about.

The team that was responsible for turning the company around upon Steve Jobs' return are either doing very well in life or someone is working very hard to spread lies about the value or importance of our contribution.

The only reason junior level designers get duped into sweat equity arrangements where they are working for free is because founders are taught to fuel their fears of not being able to find better work.

“If we can’t pay you using a coin you are going to help us invent then you obviously aren’t a good fit to work with us.”

The better the designer, the better they are at changing the course in which humanity defines ‘today’.

When you look at any interface for the first time, if you always assume it wasn’t designed with you in mind, you’ll occasionally be surprised when something works the way you expect it to.

When it's your job to design pitch decks and its also your job to identify value propositions, it becomes really obvious when a company doesn't understand which market problem they're actually solving.

Teaching design was already hard enough before people were convinced by AI generated tools that designers are obsolete.
