saying nostr isn't just for bitcoin doesn't make it true. me meta commenting on it doesn't make it true either.

it’s very narrow-minded of you to not introspectively appraise the global feed and the little trending tools we have like primal and not acknowledge that a new comer who does have that first impression currently would be quite just in coming to that conclusion.

I’ve see 20-30 posts from new accounts saying something along the lines “is this just twitter for bitcoin”

This is easy to say when nostr wasn’t picked. Everything about the evangelical cultural tone leads me to believe that an adoption of nostr from any s&p 500 social media company would be labeled as an attack really quickly.

S&P 500 companies rightfully avoid nostr because bitcoiners would call it an attack before they published a test note.

ʕ •ɷ•ʔฅ welcome!

no one controls the whole thing, a client can do something you don’t like, and you just move to a different client, a relay could stop hosting certain notes and you can get them from a different relay. Don’t like the lack of algorithm, go to a client with an algorithm, don’t like that you can’t see how that algorithm works, go find an open one or write your own.

This is true of a handful of social media protocols, but nostr is relatively simple. Check out the nostr implementation possibilities, at least the first one. You can skip over the json examples just read the plain English. Nip 01 is pretty much the whole thing, the rest is optional.

https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/01.md

when a dev has a new social idea, they can tap right into this userbase. That idea is automatically populated with content, so looking forward there won’t be this early adopter feeling of new apps of, “this is a great idea but no one uses it”

that’s just some of the reasons.

There are a lot of people here trying to influence purchase decisions, might not be a simple as product placement and paid enforcements, unfortunately their efforts diminish the influence that nostr’s possibilities tangibly manifest. This seems to be a uniquely western phenomenon.

same, was hoping you would share more insight on running an instance from arm Mac

ʕ •ɷ•ʔฅ welcome, good first steps is to just look at who others are following and pick some, then get a nostr browser extension set up so your key is relatively safe when checking out all the different clients.

so this way, only the extension has your key… the sites requests a unique signature for each event, and the extension generates that sig from your key, and just passes that single use signature to the site. The site never knows your nsec. You don’t have to trust all the new sites that pop up. I even have zap buttons on my personal website that one can sign with an extension.
