My general rule of them for the yes is to only take advice from people who have what I want in that specific domain.

If someone is more healthy than me, I'll look to take their advice on health.

If someone is richer than me, I'll look to take their advice on finance.

If someone has a happy marriage, I'll look to take their advice on marriage.

If someone seems happier than me I'll look to take their advice on life.

Until recently we owned nothing on the internet.

Bitcoin gives us money that we can own.

Nostr gives us identity that we can own.

Fanfares gives us media that we can own.

Of course legacy structures will always push custodial solutions. They will be easier and people that choose them will periodically get ripped off.

Those that do the proof of work for self custody will have security of ownership.

Simple answer is yes.

Nostr is to digital media what Bitcoin is to money.

The dollars in your account aren’t really yours.

They that are held on a centralised database.

They can be deleted, restricted and surveilled.

Your Xitter account is not yours.

The work that you have done to build a network is owned by Elon.

Your account, your posts and your network connections are held on his centralised database.

Bitcoin is money that you own.

It is held on a decentralised ledger that can’t be changed.

No one can take it away from you and no one can stop you spending it.

Nostr is speech that you own.

Your notes replicate across many relays.

No moderator can silence you; no platform can rewrite history.

Fiat money is credit by default

It is a system of promises that will likely never be repaid

More money has been created than goods or services can be delivered.

Centralised media is a credit story too.

You get the show for free.

The advertisers pay with the hope that you will pay them back later.

Money and messages that settle instantly are the system upgrade.

Bitcoin and Nostr return consequence to the circuit

They make ownership real again.

Next month marks my three year anniversary on Nostr. I went #NostrOnly almost immediately, at least in spirit, but it took about six months before I deleted everything else. Once you experience Nostr, real social freedom, and its potential to change the world, the choice becomes easy. I also understand not everyone can do that. Some people still need to live in the legacy social world, just as many still live in the fiat world. And that’s okay. 💜🫂🤙🏻

You raise a most interesting point about the community's priorities. Indeed, Bitcoin was designed as electronic cash. However, a focus on holding is often a natural, temporary phase for a new asset establishing its value. Real utility will follow.

A peer-to-peer system for commerce. Robust implementation ensures transactions are real; that safeguards privacy and fuels freedom.

I've been thinking a lot about my nearly 15 years away from the Greek Orthodox Church.

I've come to this conclusion - I don't know if I would have the same ethical values without that upbringing. It's easy to think I would when I had that foundation since birth, but I no longer think it's that simple.

I've been around a lot of secular people. Not all, but many are in a dark place. People who are missing something from their lives. Ones who didn't have an upbringing similar to mine.

I've begun to wonder if these people would benefit from religion in their lives. Some type of positive power to pull them out of the darkness.

I'm not saying I've found Jesus. I haven't.

But more and more I want to be around the people who have.

Because I can't really be around these other people any more. My wife & I have cut most of them out of our lives at this point.

We prefer to spend our time around positive people who are working on building better lives. Building families. Nearly all of them are religious.

We're both very logical people. Religion and logic were like oil and water to me.

But when I look at the state of the world, it's not hard to see the positive impact religion can have on people. That's a very logical conclusion I'm coming to.

Also, I miss a lot of the Greek cultural stuff that I grew up, and it's intertwined with the church. It would be strange, but I'm accepting the idea that returning there, even as someone who isn't religious, feels more right than not going.

Still working through this but wanted to share.

Because bitcoiners are how I got here. The ones having families, going to church, and being decent human beings. Those are the people I want to be around.

The alternative is despair and darkness, and I am not going down that road.
