For a more serious critique: Lex attempts to portray the persona of public intellectual. The problem is that heโ€™s not knowledgeable enough to pull it off.

You can be a lay person interviewing experts. In that case, you ask questions but donโ€™t express much of an opinion, because it would be uninformed. Joe Rogan does a good job at this.

OR you can be an expert interviewing other experts. In this case, the dialog is more of a back-and-forth, with both people seeking a mutual understanding of the subject matter. Stephan Livera does this for Bitcoin and Austrian Economics well.

Itโ€™s OK to flip back and forth as the subject matter changes during the course of the discussion.

The problem with Lex is that heโ€™s ignorant of his ignorance, and confidently so. He tries to have an opinion on content he doesnโ€™t understand, so his arguments are tired and tedious.

If he had a better understanding of the limits of his own knowledge, then he might be endurable.

Batman was rich, smart and athletic. Lex is none of those things.

Every time I listened to a podcast of his I got dumber. Not worth the risk.

That dude is an idiot. The longer we can keep him from clogging up our timelines the better.

For the last time people, itโ€™s pronounced โ€œGIFโ€!

In the Web, you have to deal with all the usual programming problems (algorithmic efficiency, memory management), plus the DOM (HTML, CSS, SVG), plus security (XSS, XFRF, CORS), plus different browsers, different versions, desktop/mobile (touch/multitouch), plus latency, concurrency (event loops), eventual consistency (stale data), and unpredictable user behavior.

The great irony to me is the low/untouchable status of the web developer. If you can master all of the above complexity, you deserve heaps of respect.

In the 2020 election, the lesson was that Republican votes donโ€™t matter.

Any guesses as to what lesson weโ€™re learning this year?

Web development is not for the faint of heart.
