What’s the cost of a clear conscience?

This note is based on two key assumptions:

1. We live within an unjust socio-economic system (the “Centralised Fiat System”)

2. The appropriate response to 1. is to allocate an appropriate portion of one’s effort and wealth to the best alternative system (the “Bitcoin Network”)

If these two assumptions hold true (NB: don’t trust, verify), then a key step is to quantify what’s an “appropriate portion” of wealth to allocate to Bitcoin (i.e. Bitcoin as an asset).

If a person allocates “too little” to Bitcoin then he may not have enough skin in the game to care whether the Bitcoin Network trumps the Centralised Fiat System. Perhaps not resisting injustice with enough vigour makes one at least partly complicit.

If a person allocates “too much” to Bitcoin, then this may impede his impartiality when analysing both the Centralised Fiat System and the Bitcoin Network. He may also become reckless in his participation in the Bitcoin Network and inadvertently cause it harm; think of an unjustly imprisoned man who, in his haste to escape from prison, makes it too obvious to the prison guards that he’s working on his jailbreak. Consequently, the prison warden applies measures to make it harder for all prisoners to escape.

Once a person has allocated an “appropriate portion” of his wealth to Bitcoin, he can continue to support the broader Bitcoin Network in whatever way aligns with his circumstances and ability to contribute. Some may do this by technically supporting Bitcoin. Others may do so by simply raising awareness about the two key assumptions mentioned above.

The cost of a clear conscience is neither so high that only a few can attain it nor so low that the unworthy may be honoured by it.

"The value for value podcasting model was never going to work. All of our sponsors kept on going bankrupt. I believe strongly in the Infowars model of selling supplements to keep the lights on. People have been drinking the tap water all their lives and need the tools to detox properly."

“…Central Banks inflate the money supply, offsetting technological deflation, and cancelling all the gains that would have otherwise accrued to society. Inflation benefits holders of scarce assets (real estate, stocks) and widens the gap between the haves and the have-nots.”

“In my most daring fantasies the freedom event has already arrived. The amount of technological progress we have experienced over the last three decades is staggering, and the advances keep coming at us at a faster pace. By all means, we should already have been working 10 hour work weeks by now whilst enjoying a higher standard of living. But in order to relish these gains, we will have to drop our old way of looking at the world and put on the orange glasses.”

“As the programmatic monetary policy of Bitcoin continues to work exactly as designed, approximately 92% of the terminal supply is already in circulation, and the commencement of yet another supply issuance halving event will only reinforce the narrative of apolitical money and bitcoin’s unique digital scarcity will come into focus more sharply.”
