A brief glimpse at the river and a young grafted pawpaw tree root sucker. These native root trees propogate clonally, and they cannot self pollinate without a second tree. Grafting onto a clonal rootstock will allow it to pollinate with the original mother tree. This is a great way to increase fruit production in a native clonal grove.

Along the trail, I stumbled into a group of native hazelnut saplings that have sprouted. These are called Beaked #Hazelnuts or Corylus Cornuta. It appears that I coppiced them accidently while creating the path in the spring. I spread mulch along the path which created an almost mound layering propogation of saplings.

I spent a couple nights sleeping along the river in a hammock and checking on the native pawpaw trees. There was a few pieces of fruit, but mostly they still need to ripen. A large majority of my grafts took really well.
I got a lot of videos and pictures, and I'm still pondering on the best way to post. I've been off most social media for quite some time, so it'll take me a little while to open up more. Happy to have Nostr. It feels like a new home for me.

Tis the season for grapes 🍇
This is the longest living plant in my garden. It turned 10yrs old this summer. It desperately needs a heavy pruning because I've let it run wild except for taking cuttings for propogation this spring.
