Maybe just make it a .gif, worked for my profile pic and banner. I guess file size shouldn't be too big though
Hey Iris,
any chance you can adopt Amethyst's way of including a "at-NoteID" into posts? You know, including it as a quote after the NoteID.
I thought it was a nice way to create some kind of "reverse threads".
The way Iris handles it, turns everything upside down... š
As an example look at my recent post:
@#[4]
š when Franky McDonald on Nostr? We'll need him here next bull run!

Silent S9 Antminers with Noctua Fans? Hear, hear!
As you can hear, the S9 are damn quiet. Vistors barely notice the noise. They rather notice the heatā¦
The Noctua Fans are really making a huge difference here although they do not meet the official specifications for actual mining fans. Thatās the reason why I run each of the S9 on 800W max. Then the Fans run at ~75-80% speed inside of my box. The fans wouldnāt be able to cool the miners sufficiently at higher temperatures or higher wattages. They are too slow.
But thatās not really a downside as the S9 runs most efficiently around 700-900W anyway...
On the picture below you can see that Iāve also added two random case fans to let the air around the PSUs circulate:

If you want do these mods on your own I suggest contacting the community in this telegram channel:
https://t.me/BTC_solo_mining (german guys mostly, but speaking english there should work, too š ) BTW, nostr needs proper group channels so we can leave telegramā¦!
To sum up, at that point my Mining Box was perfectly suited for the use inside my living room. So how much have the miners been heating? Iāll talk about that in the next update!

Besides all the estimates, I have some hard facts for you: at least my S9 miners will live a loooong 3rd life...
#[2]
Okay. Maybe you could also include data of shops like https://21energy.io/produkte/ or https://kaboomracks.com/ about how many old miners they sell.
Where or how do you get data about how many older machines get activated after leaving the big mining facilities?

Yep, jack's note is visible for me only via wine. He's probably right and unloading to too few relays.
Oh, I've just noticed that I'm receiving Damus notes via nostr.wine ... š
Nah, I don't think so. I guess @utxo just needs to wait a bit longer until his client can fetch the notes that were downloaded by Damus relay before...
I've never used Damus relay and could always see jack's notes.
-PV-Mining Box Threadāļøāļø - Part #3:
After finishing my box both of my S9 were placed inside and I had to do a lot of trial and error cycles with Braiins OS+ (the Miner's custom OS, used to achieve higher efficiency while lowering fan speed and fan noise) and Home Assistant (Open Source, Smart Home automation software).
As you can see and hear in the video clip, the sound reduction was countered by the higher fan speed, that had to be used to cool the miners when my box was closed.
I was super pissed š
So I had to get these miners' noise level down... To make it all worse, Autumn was coming and I wanted to move the mining box inside the living room to make use of it's heating potential.
So I got in touch with the fantastic german home mining community, which at that time started to form around #[1] 's fantastic podcast "Powering Bitcoin", and we found a solution.
First thing was to improve the airflow inside my box. I started by taking out two little plates, because I figured they were creating a bottleneck I'm my setup:
Then I swapped out the ventilation grids:

It was a good start! But it wasn't enough. The biggest success in noise reduction was achieved by a hardware mod...
More about that in my next Update! So make sure to nostr daily!

Tenor.com bietet eine Suche an. Dort kannst du die gifs einzeln in Tabs ƶffnen und die URL herauskopieren, um sie hier zu posten.
It was in april or may 2022 that I saw these crazy videos on twitter of the great soundproof Black Box from Upstream Data.
I wanted to build something similar on my own. All I had was this picture from their shop.

So I went shopping, bought some high quality wooden plates and startet building. Here's my first sketch:

You gotta start somewhere, so I didn't hesitate and build an improvised workshop - in my carport...

Stay tuned for more Updates, pictures and videos in the following days...

Building the box was a blast. I quickly finished the interior, looking like this:

Then I needed something to dampen the sound. Bought some sub-standard Bastotect-plates, which also provide fire restistance! (Btw, I donated the unneeded plates to the Plebrap crew š¤šļøš¶)

I cut the plates, which was a long and annoying process tbh, glued them inside the box and was finally done (for the first time...)

Thanks, I've already finished the project and used the box for 7 months now.
I'll provide more info on the whole thing, my mining rewards, uptime though photovoltaic power over half a year etc., on a daily basis. Can't be arsed to write walls of text which might get buried in people's feeds because it's not PV/GM time for most of my followers š.
So my idea is to write a different kind of a "Twitter - thread" over several days with a reference to my earlier posts at the end of each note.

I engraved my vanity npub into my NiP-05.
What do you guys think about that? Is it overkill?
