These guys have the hardware and traffic capacity to do this at minimal costs. For the low-ish cost of running high quality scaled-up relays, the tech giants can potentially gather location metadata to match to our public notes across a range of micro applications. I think we will see them leave their walled data harvesting gardens and adapt their current brands to #nostr if only to get more high quality data on us without having to pay their competitors & partners for it.

There is no single, central beneficiary, but anyone, in our current free-to-read-note relay environment, can harvest the data for free. Like I said, my question is genuine and I apologize if I soured the good #nostr Para vida vibes. But, the question is an existential one: How do we determine whether our worldview represents harm or help to those we bring it to?
I once found a turtle in the middle of a small bridge road. I stopped in traffic and picked it up knowing I was going to a place with a creek where many turtles lived. When I arrived I released the turtle to its new home and congratulated myself. Later though, it occurred to me that the turtle may never see its companions or young ever again. Perhaps it had laid eggs nearby. Perhaps it was adapted to a diet found only in its microenvironment. Still haunts me. I think I ruined that turtle’s life (or saved it). 🤷♂️
It’s worth it if only because it hastens the devaluation of the dollar and the return of American industry. Our current “prosperity” is not for the majority of us.
