YouTube content creator and Linux user living in Brest, Brittany. Might post gaming related stuff, especially if it runs on Linux, natively or not !

Since we can’t add annotations to YouTube videos anymore, I added a more resilient method of using overrides to theme Flatpak apps in a pinned comment under yesterday’s video (using the gtk3 and gtk4 config folders instead of the .themes and the GTK_THEME variable).

nostr:npub1c9vsvd75z3eruum3qx4uzxws7v78wc7j3z2hqq4rq2jme5sh8l2smcw5x4 Stuff like apps for VPNs that have no flatpak, kvantum for theming, reducing Bluetooth latency in a config file (can’t do it graphically, need to edit a text file), stuff like that. Not things the general public would do, but the general public wouldn’t even use desktop mode at all, I guess.

nostr:npub1c9vsvd75z3eruum3qx4uzxws7v78wc7j3z2hqq4rq2jme5sh8l2smcw5x4 I think it’s a weird situation on Steam Deck: flatpaks is a cool way to install apps, but the rest of the OS is so locked down you simply can’t escape the remaining limitations of flatpaks.

In a way I feel it makes Flatpak look bad, because it’s a format that’s at its best when used for graphical apps, combined with other formats for CLI and specific apps.

When you only get Flatpak, it forces you to contend with its problems!

nostr:npub16639fqmxqwld65hlwdxwv9nkn8zhgskwezwpgvl2kfz0w78uaf3q4t5sta Yeah totally agree. I don’t understand why they didn’t add that back yet

nostr:npub16639fqmxqwld65hlwdxwv9nkn8zhgskwezwpgvl2kfz0w78uaf3q4t5sta It’s the default Nautilus yeah. You can hit Control + L to access the file path :)

nostr:npub12f7r2gjj0ch84wdh5kg03gkmjyskya6zlxq70cxlk5qm5sysjhuq08lkxh Yeah, for now it works, and I wouldn’t recommend anyone does this, but for people who absolutely want to do it, I offered a solution!

For me, the Flatpak theme didn’t I stall automatically, that’s why I added the step, but it might be a case of a name mismatch?

nostr:npub1n5dp9kysp7d6q249wd9zzed3rkjwqack4mkudpe2vjk5pl26ep8sqvwt2g Most of them are either outdated, irrelevant, or in bad faith though. It’s a terrible article that shouldn’t really be taken seriously :)

Since there are a bunch of misconceptions around Flatpak, I decided to make a guide to dispel these, and explain how to do a few things, like theming all applications, using the command line interface to manage them, installing them from your web browser, and more:

Holly crap, I don’t know who I have to thank for the very, very generous donation on Liberapay (they’re all anonymous), but that’s… amazing!

If this person is on Mastodon and they’re reading this: you are amazing! Thank you so much!

Time for this week's #Linux and #OpenSource News video!

In this one, we have #ChromeOS finally graduating to a "real" Linux distro status, we have #Mint giving details about the next release, and discussing their choice of #Ubuntu as a base, and we have #GNOME planning some changes to the Activities button (that I sort of like, but it's not perfect).

Let's take a look!

nostr:npub1ntnn0rltjem4rlvyetu5phqdd3heku9a7udafhqr88t6drm3zhzswr54j6 It’s not my project, I can’t add screenshots but check out nostr:npub17my84cvutmdawkw5rtf26vqxnxxuyr8ttcpdlc4dcwhh93mupyws0a2d2n, they made me aware of the theme and they have an article with screenshots ;)

nostr:npub188q3683vez7v4mnugjv4nf6ud3z9mkn2h7kgc76z6ph6advw5vdqdj3jlx Have fun watching this .. Soon all Gnome Extensions will break as #GnomeShell moves to ESM. No exceptions.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaZuQO0bK-M&t=21027s

nostr:npub10zmx7gk5ymh7kyq725wsdq4rqemwwdm8h7hms2kh2dyzchkf4y7sxjzrpx Yeah but there’s an advance warning and they’ll be able to be rebuilt, so it’s not really a big problem
