My Bitcoin journey started only 4 years ago, early in 2021. I returned to work post pandemic and a few of my younger coworkers got me started in the crypto world towards the peak of the last bull run. Prior to that, I thought crypto currency might be a new barter system using weed as money. Luckily I learned the value of Bitcoin and also the value of DCA. Since then I have gone way down the rabbit hole and my wife is now a Bitcoiner too.

I have 16 nieces & nephews with ages ranging from upper 20's to upper 40's, I'm in my upper 50’s. Though I don't live geographically close to them, we're still a close and loving family. I see most of them a few times a year and a few will text or call fairly frequently.

Recently, I felt the need to encourage my nieces and nephews to get some Bitcoin exposure. I was assuming that most of them would already be somewhat familiar with Bitcoin. I was surprised to find out that only 1 out of the 16 had previously purchased BTC and most were pretty unfamiliar with the topic. I offered $200 in BTC to any of them that could send me a “receive address”. I figured that $200 would be enough incentive to spark some curiosity and instigate some research. Also hoping that number would grow over time for some of them.

This is the group text that I sent to each set of siblings:

Aloha Everyone!

Just a message from your crazy Uncle.

I would like to give $200 in Bitcoin to every Niece or Nephew that sends me a Bitcoin Address. Save it for 10 years or cash it in tomorrow, totally your choice. I am not offended if there is no interest. I'm just hoping to encourage awareness and exposure to an apolitical, long term savings and store of value technology. For those that don't already know, simply learning how to open up a wallet to send or receive BTC will be useful. Learning how to save properly and preserve wealth into the future can make a huge difference! It may inspire some thoughtful conversations amongst each other?

Sending the same message to every Niece and Nephew but had to separate into families because the list was too long! Lol!

Feel free to text or call with any questions. We could even do a group Zoom Meeting if anyone is interested?

One month later, 9 out of 16 have responded and 2 out of those 9 sent me a BTC address. All of those 9 expressed their gratitude and a few showed some degree of interest. One niece did give me a thoughtful and detailed response on why she was declining to participate. She also offered to donate her portion to her closest cousin in age with a BTC address. Because she had already participated more than anyone else, I sent her the $200 in cash, which was not in my original plan. I think that she will recognize the potential positives over time and I appreciated her efforts. Somehow I thought the interest would be greater amongst the others but I guess I miscalculated.

This says that we are definitely still early! But it also shows me that there is a lot of work to be done. These nieces and nephews are at a prime stage in life where they can find extreme benefits to owning Bitcoin. Most of them are married and already have kids but only a few have been able to buy homes. They have a lot of working years ahead of them and will hopefully own Bitcoin for many, many years! I don't want to be overly persistent and become annoying but I do intend to continue Orange Pilling these ”kids”. It's a hard balance between expressing the importance and urgency to seeming cultish and desperate. I will be doing Zoom calls for the ones that are interested and hope to continue with the encouragement. I'm sure that I can convince at least half of them to get their own wallet/address within the next 6 months. As things progress, I will try to update this post.
