A typical size of peanut butter at the mart here is 39.99 Rand. Someone can work a whole hour at minimum wage here and still won’t be able to afford peanut butter.

Sometimes I’m at a loss of words.

Minimum wage for South Africa is 25.42 Rand.

25.42 Rand is approximately $1.40 USD.

Some people are working here for the equivalency of $1.40 per hour. I’m in Cape Town, South Africa right now.

The system is broken. 😞
