I was reading about Wabi Sabi recently and absolutely fell in love with this concept - its this idea of appreciating the beauty of simplicity, authenticity, imperfections, growth and decay. This concept traces back from ancient Chinese philosophies such as Taoism and Zen Buddhism, and it became an integral part of Japanese culture through Zen priest Murata Shuko in the 15th century - who transformed the tea ceremony by replacing fancy gold, jade, porcelain, with simple wooden and clay tools. Fast forward to the 16th century, infamous tea master Sen no Rikyu of Kyoto extended this ethos to the homes of the influential and famous. He designed a tea house with a door so low, that even the emperor has to bow before entering reminding everyone the importance of humility.

Here's another Japanese concept I love, Kintsugi - it came about several centuries back when artisans were figuring out how to mend broken potteries
