Immersion mining with canola oil to concentrate maple sap more quickly

https://v.nostr.build/n997.mp4

I'm using a single S9 hash board immersed in canola oil to heat maple sap to increase the effectiveness of the reverse osmosis sap concentration system.

The weather conditions this season have caused the maple sap to be cold and stay cold which drastically slows down the ability of the RO system to filter water out of it. I ran into a bottle neck where there is more sap than I can keep up with concentrating so I needed to come up with something quickly!

Ideally if the temperature of the sap is 77°f the filter will operate most effectively without damaging the RO membrane. Of course, my mind immediately turned to Bitcoin mining for the heating solution. What I came up with was an immersion system using the homebrew equipment I already had to heat the sap just before it entered the RO. This would allow the majority of the sap to stay cool keeping it from spoiling and still remove the most water possible.

The only thing I didn't have for the immersion system was the dielectric fluid. I had no idea where to find the proper fluid nor did it make sense to pay the high cost for it. The application for this system is very specific and I will only need it until April. I had been joking about using canola oil as dielectric fluid for almost a year but for this situation it seemed like the perfect fit. Canola oil is 70% cheaper than bitcool before shipping and was immediately available!

Amazingly, I put everything together and it worked very well without major adjustments. I tip-toed the voltage and frequency of the single S9 hashboard up slowly to find the right balance in temperatures between the two fluid loops. Ultimately, I ended up with an overclocked board drawing over 600w! By the time I got the system setup and dialed in I was already half way through concentrating this collection of sap. The next collection will offer more concrete data on what this system is capable of. For now, even with the worst S9 board I have, I'm getting a 15% rebate on the total power usage of the whole process and it's definitely concentrating sap more quickly. All for ~$10 of canola oil... 👀

Canola Oil?! Impressive set up.

This is such high signal. From start to finish. Africa is going to be the centre of Bitcoin development imo. Free cities, decentralised energy, and entreprenurial spirit. Stay humble, spend and stack sats. nostr:npub1yn4mddvdpwvy49jmwmuze600lpu4ej2sskjdp80dc455nm2edtdqaztec0

Do people in Bitcoin really understand Bitcion?

Some people that buy bitcoin, leave it on an exchange, don't understand what it is at all. They think it's just a Ponzi scheme and they can make some money out of it.

Other people understand the digital gold concept, the fact that it's 21 million. There can't be more than 21m, so it is a good store of value.

Some people out there actually understand that the fiat system is going to fail, but they don't believe that Bitcoin is a solution. They're either gold bugs or they just believe some other new form of government currency has to be created. They think that because they can't see out of walled garden and they think that the only way you can have a currency, is if it is controlled by the government.

But then there are a smaller number of us, and I've got to say, I've only joined this band in the last couple of years since I've seen lightning working, that know that this is actually the payment system of the future and lightning makes all the difference. I think Nostr as an application that uses lightning for exchange of value for Internet media, that's a really good use case that proves Bitcoin. That's what this really evolves into, is fundamentally a payment system that we can all use in a fast and cheap way more securely than anything we have ever had before. The added advantage is that the base layer can't be over inflated. It is like the invention of paper notes that operated as a faster and cheaper layer 2 that runs on top of the gold base layer.

We used to have because paper notes were faster and cheaper to transact than gold. With lightning, you've got your base layer, which is the bitcoin, and instead of being held in a single vault controlled by the government or by multiple governments, you've got this decentralized storage of the digital gold because it can be in multiple multisig wallets around the world. No one really knows where they all are, so it can't be seized. It's enforcing democracy in terms of money. The lightning is sound money because the payment layer programatically and securerly represents the base asset.

There are very few of us that understand the gravity of this Simon and that makes me think we’re in for the long haul to disseminate awareness. That’s both a challenge and an opportunity! Hope Asia is treating you well :)
