this is what happens in the future if the "outbox-is-broken-let's-use-smart-proxy-relays" people win:

- people start relying on "caching services" to fetch their notes. now every client must run their own caching service to remain competitive.

- as the network grows, syncing from all relays becomes more and more prohibitively and databases grow to the infinite.

- less and less caching services exist, but a "local best scenario" would be if we had like 4 different clients/caching-services to read from, but then if one of them banned alex jones that would mean 25% of users lose access to alex jones. there is nothing alex jones can do to change that.

- users could switch from app A to app B that hasn't banned alex jones, but app B had already banned donald trump, so that move is questionable and uncertain. anyway, it's too much friction for a user who doesn't know how to find this caching-service setting buried deep in their settings (because UX specialists said that's the best place to put it).

- eventually it makes no sense to switch anymore and as one of the caching services gains more market share they merge with the others, saving costs and regulatory burden (these caching servers are so big they need to do spam moderation, find and delete pornography and scam bots, comply with government takedowns, defend themselves against lawsuits, it's a huge cost), so it's much better to just have a single caching-service.

- everybody still publishes to their own relay, so nostr becomes exactly like bluesky and the central service can censor anyone. eventually people give up the stupidity of using intermediary relays and just publish directly to that central service.

- that central service now can serve you ads and blue checks, shadowban everybody who doesn't pay, modify your feed with amazing AI techniques to keep you engaged and prevent you from seeing anything they don't want you to see but keep you nourished with memes.

No. We integrate nostr relays into our home routers. It is the one, always online, device that nearly everyone has.

I log in and everyone is talking about me and I've no idea why.

Real life is all-around better. While I think it is vital that we try to build a web of trust to mimic real-life interactions online, I also think we need to development online interactions in such a way that they try to bring people together in real-life as much as possible and otherwise get out of the way.

Well, that is a good point. There is probably some defense in calling that gold coin an "element" of a particular payment, in the way that any particular set of tags constitute an element of a particular html document. But yeah, you are right. HTML elements are instances.

What is the evidence? Twitter still being available in Brazil?

There should be a hard limit of Dunbar's Number at 150 forcing you to curate your list to focus on quality. Known identities can be unlimited, but actual follows 150.

Not that bizarre. All those other things are called "elements" because the word element just means something like "Essential part" You can have elements of just about anything if they describe the basic building blocks of that thing.

If you're not using https://github.com/mikedilger/gossip you're missing on an absurd amount of speed and smoothness a web app cannot ever deliver.

I looked into the repo and thought it was interesting only to discover that I already built it from source last week and forgot.🤢

This is a problem with canned replies. There isn't going to be an argument that works for everyone. It depends on each person's specific objections and values. I have been catholic since birth and committedly so, yet none of the "proofs of God's existence" have worked for me. They are at best, arguments for God's existence.

I wish I could say that I had the simple accepting faith that so many of my friends and family do. I wish I could say that I'd have found my way to Catholicism if I'd been born elsewhere, but I get to have a daily struggle instead. I'd like to think it is because I am just too smart for a simple faith, but in reality I am just too proud.

What I can do, regardless of the reason, is give a well-reasoned account for why I remain in the faith and fall ever deeper in Love with God and will do so till death. What that won't do is be enough for you.

Luckily nothing I or C.S. Lewis can say needs to be enough for you. If Christ is who He claims to be than He will make himself known in a way that works for you (that is not to say on your terms however) If he isn't.. well now that is a confusing situation of un-falsifiabilty.

Your release notes should fit in a single network packet with an MTU of 1500 bytes.

Is #zapathon just a bunch of accounts reusing memes in hopes of coming out a few satoshis ahead and mostly being disappointed?

Those days still exist. I am more likely to get answers on an obscure topic in a irc channel with 20 nicks than I am in a Discord channel with 2,000. The difference is in how easy it is to discover a channel and pop in even if it isn't a main topic of interest.

Discord et al make discovery and joining difficult enough that if you bother to jump through the hoops you will probably just stay joined even if you never check it again.

Then there is the segregation of topics within a server. On irc you never feel like you have to declare. "I say, Reginald old pal, shall we retire to the 'compilation issues' sub-channel? I've some niggling warnings I've been meaning to run by you." You always get the vague feeling you are off-topic and that squashes lively conversation.

I'd love to see a Nostr based irc clone with very simple structure and not even have to join an irc server.

That seems to have made me visible again, but I am not sure how to save my profile with relays listed. Alby doesn't have that option that I can tell. I can't post via Coracle, I am guessing that is because it doesn't know where to post without relays listed.

I can find myself if I search dwigton@getalby.com I am checking the npub it is listing.
