The thing about #Bitcoin is that it's most profitable for miners who find (or provide for themselves) the cheapest possible electricity, long-term, in large amounts.
Consumable energy sources are not a fit, as they would increase in difficulty and price to acquire, and become unprofitable eventually.
Miners have to find truly renewable sources of energy longterm, that don't consume anything. So if anything, Bitcoin is not a threat to the electrical grid, it'll improve it, if not just bypass it entirely.
The question will become whether Bitcoin mining is the most profitable thing to do with any electricity, and it starts to price out everything else. If a home user would pay less than a miner for the same megawatt...
