I don't understand why so many bitcoiners are averse to actual using it as...you know...money! 😜 Just spend and replace. Be a net accumulator and use it as a medium of exchange. That's the only way we get adoption. Not by everyone HODLing.
Sats/USD
That's cool. So you're already used to denominating things in Sats. 🧡
A Sats/USD phone widget helps keep up to date with fiat prices.
I hardly get out these days and have no fixed income, so I'm struggling somewhat in practice at the moment.
I keep mentioning Bitcoin to small retailers when paying for things, especially if I know it's an owner on the checkout, or a market stall.
I'm hoping the repetition helps, as well as hoping I'm not the only customer to ask. So I really hope other Bitcoiners do the same.
I get encouraged by people like nostr:nprofile1qqs034ppyjnjakycjcj84kgj737aw6kxkmxazrlp0r67qjk0atgdfgspz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhszythwden5te0dehhxarj9emkjmn99usy20wr and his videos, going out there to preach the sound money of Bitcoin and ease of Lightning payments. These small pockets will continue to expand and grow, but you can't force it.
"Everyone gets Bitcoin at the price they deserve" as the saying goes.
I have a BlockClock set to show Sats/dollar as well as BTC-USD price. So I usually have a general idea of the SATs/dollar rate. It's at such a weird place right now though. Mentally it's just as weird to think of things in Sats as it is in bitcoin. Yeah yeah, blah blah...millibits and bits and what have you's. I try, haha! But, a widget would be nice to really shift the mindset! I'll definitely check that out! I've tried to reach out to local businesses in person and online, and had zero luck. That's why I just stick to the workaround of giftcards and Cash App for now. It's one degree of separation to really paying in bitcoin, but it's better than zero. That's how I think of it. I will absolutely freak out the day I pay someone peer to peer with BTC though! 🙏
Nice! Thanks! I like to use Bitrefill to buy Giftcards and load them on apps to use in store. That covers most food, groceries, and a lot of other purchases (Amazon, etc.). Another gamechanger for me is Cash App, which has an account and routing number associated with the account. So with that I can pay my mortgage and most bills.
What are your top tips or best practices for how you do this? I'm trying to be on as much of a bitcoin standard as possible.
My favorite page on the StLouisFed .org (FRED) site:
"Buying eggs with bitcoins."
OVER THE PAST FIVE YEARS...
From September 2019 through September 2024, the price of a dozen eggs:
- In US dollars: Up +177%, from $1.38 to $3.82.

- In #bitcoin: Down -55%, from 14,119 sats to 6,310 sats.

CONCLUSION: Life gets constantly more expensive the longer you save in dollars (or any government fiat currency), while it generally gets (much) cheaper the longer you save in #bitcoin.
Inflationary fiat currency versus neutral inelastic energy money...
The choice is yours.

I'm about halfway through reading One Hundred Years of Solitude and really liking it so far. Apparently a Netflix series adaptation starts in December, so that will be cool. I like watching the adaptations after reading a good book. #bookstr

Unfortunately that happens way too often 😔
Keep the gold coins, if only for sentimental value, then smash buy the value of the coins in BTC!
