30th book of 2024 complete:
I came into this book cautiously, not sure if it was a hit piece being waged against America’s warriors or a well researched and thorough piece of actual journalism.
While I’m still waiting to hear back from a Navy Seal buddy to get his take, I believe this is an accurate and well researched book. HOWEVER, most of the acts described in the book, while awful, I don’t believe to be unique to Seal Team 6.
Over 20+ years of the Forever Wars similar and worst acts have been committed across units of all types. They are always the exception to the rule of the American Warrior’s ethos and unless you’ve experienced combat and understand the monster that lives in all of us, it is difficult to understand the fine line between lethally trained strategically employed violence and psychopathic murderers.
Certainly this book points out the failures of officers up and down the chain of command as well as civilian leaders who are suppose to provide oversight. Unless we, the American People, demand change and accountability while maintaining an understanding of what our nations Warriors are being asked to do, we won’t become a more moral society.

29th book of 2024 complete:
Savage Son by Jack Carr
I’m glad I read The Most Dangerous Game prior to reading this. Savage Son was masterfully written to incorporate the theme of that book while maintaining the story line and characters of the James Reese series.
Jack has quickly become one of my favorite authors, sucking me back into the world of fiction!
I’m going to take a short break from fiction and get caught up on some other books on my list. But LCDR Reese’s next mission is already calling me.

FBI documents show that FBI agent’s loyalties were questioned and those deemed to be disloyal had their security clearances revoked (meaning in effect, they were fired).
Supporting the then President and the Bill of Rights are fireable offenses at the FBI.
Feel how you feel about Trump, but aren’t those sworn to uphold the Constitution and the orders of the President suppose to obey their oath?!
What kind of upside down world are we living in?!

Happy birthday McLovin!

28th book of 2024 complete:
The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell
As I started Jack Carr’s third novel, Savage Son, the preface describes how Jack was inspired by this book at an early age. I decided I had to read it before starting Savage Son
It’s a fast read and one of the best pieces of writing you’ll ever read, not just for the story but for the way it’s written
Absolutely recommend

27th book of 2024 complete:
True Believer by Jack Carr
The accuracy and detail of Carr’s writing makes you feel like you’re back overseas, and specially when you’ve been to places like Irbil, Ramadi, Fallujah, Amman, Incirlik, etc
I made the mistake of saying The Terminal list was the second non-fiction book I’ve read. But maybe that was a Freudian slip, as Carr’s writings are more Fact than fiction (fact-tion?)
Carr is proving himself to be the Forever War Veteran’s Tom Clancy
We’re recommending everyone in the nostr:npub1qktts9naunvjdwsktq5xjdhwh539xt4x0mqj4yxq0q9dvm03ljvs6sms0r community read these books

While hiking through the backcountry of Denali National Park a couple weeks ago, I looked back at my dad and said,
“It gets easier. But then it gets harder.”
He said, “That’s a good analogy for life.”
Every time you find something difficult, you take it on and figure it out. Things get easier. And then you come up against another challenge and things get harder.
That’s the way it’s suppose to be. If things are easy right now, is that because you’re avoiding the next challenge or simply haven’t found it yet?

26th book of 2024 complete:
The Terminal List by Jack Carr
Only the second non-fiction book I’ve read this year and… damn!
My mind was blown more than being on the wrong side of Lieutenant Commander James Reese!! IYKYK
Fighting the urge to continue reading this series as I have so many other books on the reading list. That said, True Believer (2nd book of the series) is already paid for and waiting in the queue.

25th book of 2024 complete:
The Dictators Handbook by Bruce Bueno De Mesquita and Alastair Smith
The thesis is great: rulers hold on to power by following key rules, namely, benefiting their essential supports, those people in their society whose support is needed to gain and maintain power
The flaw to the book, however, is a general belief that democratic rulers are better than autocratic rulers because they must appeal to a larger essential supporter base.
While they point out how democratic governments can be corrupt and break rules, they try to make it seem like that’s atypical and those rulers are often thrown out easily by the electorate.
They also point out how autocratic rulers often have sham elections. As if to believe that democratic system’s elections aren’t rigged simply by providing false choices.
Without realizing where the true power lies in American society, they fail to properly identify the actual essential supporters.
Corporations like the MMIC (Medical and Military Industrial Complex) who control so much of the politics and the media, are no different than essential supporters in an autocracy who provide political support to rulers and propaganda.
Just because it’s a more advanced form of manipulation, they seem to be tricked into believing that it’s all about democracy and the people’s will.
I would only recommend this book for two reason:
1) I believe the thesis is accurate
2) I would like to see more people give their own analysis of this book
If you have to will read, please provide your feedback

I’m prepping for a Memorial Day workout where you see how many laps you can do of a 2.5 mile obstacle course with about 30 obstacles in a 6 hour time frame
I signed up for the version where you wear 25lbs because I’m an idiot like that
Yesterdays run
3.5 miles in kit with full combat load. Managed to keep the pace under 10min/mi

It’s sad that this book has such a great thesis, which I believe is accurate, but they’re so Blue and Green Pilled they miss so much.
“States don’t have interests, people do”
- The Dictators Handbook by Bruce Bueno De Mesquita and Alastair Smith
No war, no bailout, no social program was ever initiated because it was in the state’s or the people’s interest. They’ve always been initiated because they were in the rulers interest.

24th book of 2024 complete:
One Second After by William R Forstchen is about the aftermath of an EMP attack on the United States
An Electro Magnetic Pulse attack is the ultimate asymmetric attack. If successful, it would leave the entire country cut off from power, transportation, logistical resupply, and so much more.
Would you and your community be prepared to go without power, refrigeration, heat, cars, the grocery store, medicine? Our interconnected and global society is heavily reliant on these systems that are extremely vulnerable.
The government’s response is always to throw cash at a problem AFTER the crisis. But one second after the attack will be too late.
Our only hope is to ensure we’re prepared individually and do what we can to help our local communities prepare.

Backcountry camping in Denali National Park in Alaska
Saw caribous, had a way to close encounter with a grizzly, and saw some of the most beautiful untouched land on the planet
In 6 million acres we were 2 of maybe 30-40 people, everyone else being in vehicles along the one road in the park
Already can’t wait or do it again!!

I was thinking about this while reading previous chapters. You never hear an Austrian or a Libertarian say that e should ban The Communist Manifesto or Keynesian textbooks. When you’re right, you don’t have to ban “mis/disinformation”.

23rd book of 2024 complete:

Anyone who understands that we must transcend left/right politics if we want to fix what’s broken is someone worth listening to and reading
Freedom is something that must be fought for and defended through cooperative means and at all times. The moment you stop being vigilant is the moment it will be taken away by someone with more intestinal fortitude
