push how? the software he's making I personally set the arbitrary release date of july 1 (canada day) because it was supposed to be used for poast. i still am heavily interested in using it but not for the same intended purpose anymore and i want to see him succeed with it. a lot of us do because the premise of the thing basically removes any and all restrictions from anyone making server blocking, defederations etc a thing of the past. this is a great thing -- not for poast because people here want a curated experience for the most part -- but this is a good thing for the future of fedi.

people are responsible for their own data security and there's no amount of telling them that will change mistakes.

ours is on RAID10 and backed up on S3 remotely and 6 times daily a full "deep" backup is done and stored with a copy of the database at the same time. I don't expect others to do that, but they also dont have 30k people relying on them. a lot of people do this as a hobby and dont care about losing data, too. so all you can really do is warn people

ive been pushing fybe to a lot of people as a replacement to traditional S3 services especially in contrast to Wasabi. Fybe is a new player on the market, they only have one location (us-central-1) currently but they are offering 5/TB/mo (their site says 6 but its 5/mo) with zero egress fees and none of the hidden tape like Wasabi's "you can only download the total size of your bucket monthly" which doesnt work for most mid-sized fedi instances and the "90 day retention" period where if you delete something you pay for it for 3 months regardless.

btrfly uses fybe for several terabytes of daily backups for hosted instances without fail, payment is always as expected. I wouldn't put the majority of poast's media on it just because the overhead of S3 cuts into post time the autistic people of poast will notice immediately, so we can only really rely on local RAID10 NVMe

that being said, if you are looking for S3 you should check out Fybe. Wasabi is fucking gay. thank you for coming to my graftalk
