Peniscola Castle, also known as Castillo de Peñíscola or Castell de Peníscola, has a long and rich history. The earliest evidence of habitation in the area were Ibero-Roman remains excavated in the port of Peniscola, dating back to the 1st–2nd centuries BC. Arab writer Al-Idrisi described Baniskula in the 11th century AD, and briefly described a Moorish castle overlooking the sea. The castle was built by the Knights Templar on the remains of an old Moorish citadel. It was the residence of Benedict XIII, who turned it into a palace and papal library when he moved to Peñíscola in 1411. Today, the castle is restored and open to the public. A ticket to enter is €5,- and definitely word it. #travel

The Barbary macaques in Gibraltar 🇬🇮 #travel
They are tail-less monkeys that are originally from Morocco. The Gibraltar Barbary macaques are also known as Gibraltar monkeys and are referred to as the national animal of Gibraltar. The monkeys are used to human interaction and will often approach and climb onto people. It is not known exactly how they arrived on the peninsula, but there are many theories.
