I’d imagine for anyone looking for access to data they’d have to find a library or multiple that’s willing to publish all their book data in public.
Agreed, I don’t think shipping mediocrity benefits anyone. But I think it’s a lot like watching children develop skills, create art etc.

Maybe just cynicism taking hold, but the more I meditate on the events that transpired, the more I forego bad conclusions.
