I honestly can’t get over how nice and homily the experience of Nostr is versus that of X. It is clearly from how the algorithms are now squeezing everyone in the final phase of eyeballs and brain cycles to achieve meaningless clicks based off of rage, anger, and generally negative emotional experiences.

It’s pretty scary to think about and realize that there is no one at the wheel, and the raw emotion experience you may be having is there for the free exploitation of the banality that is advertising. In someways I wish this evil had a greater cause or originality; but as evil always is, it is simply banal as it is not the product of thought, but rather the real product of the incapacity of thought.

I like to stack bitcoin, and to a lesser extent stack stocks and gold and real estate.

However, I am careful about dollars due to their centralization and tendency to lose value. The tokenomics for dollars just aren’t attractive. To the extent that I am long dollars for various liquidity needs, I am also short dollars to a similar amount through mortgages and so forth, so that I have zero net exposure to such a risky asset.

Every time I open up Damus I never know what I’m going to see. Could be some bitcoin tips, could be a picture of steak, could be a music video, a good podcast recommendation, even a half-naked woman with a bitcoin logo on her nips 😛

A legal tactic to be aware of is to make unfollowable laws, and then selectively enforce them.

So for example with this FinCEN proposal, add a ton of reporting requirements for all sorts of noncustodial transaction types, which puts tons of normal operators at risk and heavily disincentivizes them. It’s so broad as to apply to almost everyone, and even things they can’t report technically could be argued to be reportable (eg Lightning node router operator- report everyone you are routing for!). Now, everyone is a criminal; everyone has legal leverage against them which can be selectively deployed.

And if a “class of transactions” can be labeled under Section 311 of the Patriot Act as reportable, then why not also ban-able? Instead of sanctioning an actual entity, why not sanction a concept, a class of transactions, an expression of math?

Dangerous precedent.
