Hate to be that guy but 30k in 2023 is worth less than 20k in 2017.
I barely got my family and friends to use signal, and now there are other options like threema, simplex, etc.
I suspect that this proposal will not pass as written but even by proposing, it will bring much more awareness to a system built of manipulation and control, versus truth and freedom.
The US will not beat China by being more authoritarian than China, so I’m betting that smarter heads will prevail, but even in the event they don’t - it would only accelerate the development towards countries looking to take advantage of the US increasingly turning away from individual rights and freedoms and a free market.
But as you say nostr:npub1a2cww4kn9wqte4ry70vyfwqyqvpswksna27rtxd8vty6c74era8sdcw83a - We are in the “then they fight you” stage.
I think we're barely beginning to scratch the surface of the "then they fight you" phase. We haven't sent nothing yet. These things take time.
I don't think I was clear in my wording. I meant bitcoin needs this battle just like it needed the block size wars, in order to become even stronger. Central powers will try to capture it, and they will fail. Freedom will win.
FinCEN’s proposal to outlaw all crypto privacy is a huge overreach. They apply a section of the Patriot Act on a “class of transactions” in a new precedent. Doesn’t matter if it’s custodial or noncustodial- merely using certain type of code can be an illegal act.
People are caught by the potential spot ETF, meanwhile this is proposed. Now they fight you.

Good. It will suck for many, but bitcoin needs this so it can emerge even stronger on the other side.
Not just unavoidable, but required. Yes it will probably suck, but bitcoin has to go through this phase to come out even stronger on the other side.
Yes. It is everyone's responsibility to protect their rights.

Some HN comments suggest that its ridiculous for each individual to have a car. Cars should be minimized in favor of public transportation. To save the planet of course.
Traffic jams are an issue and not wanting a car fine. Not being allowed to own one is not. You lose movement sovereignty and become dependent on public transportation, which is not nearly as good. Besides, you are forfeiting your right to private property by giving governments the power to tell you what you can and can't own. That's a dangerous game to play. In a social credit system society being forced to use public transportation is every dictators wet dream.
While some will be happy to sell their car to save the planet, I will not. On the contrary, I will do what I can to become more sovereign and to protect my rights.
Things will change though. "They" will come after personal cars just like they're coming after meat.
Many hospitals are for-profit businesses. Their main incentive is not to cure diseases but to make money. Think about that for a second.
