The share of electric and hybrid vehicle sales Fell to 18% of total new light-duty vehicle sales in the U.S. during the first quarter of 2024, the Energy Information Administration reports, down from 18.8% in the previous quarter.
The decline was entirely due to drop in EV sales. As a share of all vehicle sales, electric vehicles were 7% of the total in the first quarter, down from 8.1% of the market in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers is leading a 24-state lawsuit against the Biden administration’s electric trucking rule.
The lawsuit argues that the rule exceeds the EPA’s authority.
In a separate lawsuit, Nebraska, 16 other states, and the Nebraska Trucking Association are challenging the Advanced Clean Fleets, a suite of rules coming out of California, which requires certain trucking fleet owners and operators to retire internal-combustion trucks and transition to more expensive and less efficient electric trucks.

In mid-March of 2021, staff at Georgia Aquarium noticed their seven Asian small-clawed otters were lethargic and not as hungry as usual. By April, the otters were also showing signs of respiratory illness. Aquarium veterinary staff first contacted the State Veterinarian’s office and then the Georgia Department of Public Health to ask for permission to test the otters for SARS-CoV-2 infection. Their request was approved. To everyone’s surprise, the results were positive. CDC’s ONE HEALTH Office was BROUGHT into the conversation to support the Georgia Department of Public Health investigation into the animals’ infections.
