Tales of a hitchhiker rabbit:
After a dancing through a multilingual evening with the beautiful people of Brussels and having a plentiful brunch with friends in the morning, I felt strengthened enough to try my luck hitching again.
I didn’t have to wait for too long in the light drizzle of Brussels until a yellow van stopped. In it, I was greeted by Suka a gleeful Indian from the Punjab region who didn’t understand my attempts to communicate with him in dutch or french. Turns out he had lived in Germany for eight years, so we ended up communicating in a comical mix of german and english.
He was driving to his store in Leuven which distributes tropical fruits and vegetables and introduced me to his oldest son whom I gave my contact if he ever had questions regarding setting up a bitcoin wallet to send money back to their family in India.
Thereafter we continued towards Hasselt, a city closer to the German border.
After teaching me the Punjabi version of Namaste, Suka dropped me off at a highway gas station and with reciprocal Sasrika wishes we went our ways.
Soon after I asked Svanhild and her husband Günter if I may join them on their way towards Cologne. They hesitantly agreed after deeming me harmless. It turned out Günter was blind since birth but since they were coming back from a religious gathering of their community in Zeeland they thought that god had send a stranger to join them with some insightful conversation on their way home. We were discussing the personal relationship with faith and transcendence and left each other with advice to dig deeper into the topics each of us was passionate about.
Since I arrived in Cologne earlier than expected, I called up my friend to tell me about some of the adventures he had lived through in the Papuan jungle, while wandering through our beautiful city.
I learned about the hardships people with less birth privilege face and about his ideas to improve organizational structures in rural hospitals.
With deep pockets of experience and wonder I made my way back home and fell asleep immediately in my cozy bed.
