Leaving Twitter/X and its questionable algo feels like the best decision I’ve made in regards to social media.
Since the dawn of being purple-pilled, I’ve ditched tiktok, instagram, facebook, and snapchat. But Twitter/X was the hardest to let go with its real-time news updates at my fingertips. Nostr is slowly but steadily getting there, but I’d take #nostr any day if I didn’t have to painfully sift through toxic sludge of advertisements & worthless information of crap from bot accounts I didn’t choose to follow.
Nostr is a beautiful, safe haven filled with fresh breath of clean, cold air. The sheer amount of authenticity, in-depth academia, and collectives of train of thought from all walks of life is just pure bliss to witness amidst the chaotic, divisive world we live in today. Thank you nostr devs for making all of this possible!

And from what I see on Instagram (not yet verified), Instagram will be putting a notice for all new users to either give permission for Instagram to “track activity received from ALL applications AND websites used/visited on your phone” to improve ADVERTISEMENTS (!!!!!!)
Otherwise, assuming the image posted is true, Instagram will be forced to switch from being a free application for all users to a subscription-based application and charge its users the 30% Apple Tax (also assuming Android & other Big Tech companies don’t follow suit after Apple).
In other words: “Give us your data so we can receive $$$ from advertising companies to pay the 30% Apple Tax (and fill our wallets with the excess) and we’ll keep the application free for all”.
OR
“Don’t give us the data and we’ll charge YOU the 30% Apple Tax to use our services”
I can’t help but think this will set a chilling precedence for new and existing applications making it all the more harder going forward, especially for those who depend on the income they make on Patreon.
Which is why this will be perfect timing to introduce #nostr as a safe haven for those who want to continue their social media antics, educate the masses about our beautiful #purple ecosystem in what it has to offer (and not have to sacrifice attention for freedom), grow their income in #zaps, and help #grownostr into a more sustainable, #weird platform for all 🫶🏼
For applications similar to Patreon who have creators making profit off their content using Patreon’s platform, the creators either have to deduct 30% of their total earnings to pay the Apple Tax, or increase their daily/weekly/monthly subscription fees to their fans by 30% so it falls on the subscribers and not the creator.
On top of that, “Patreon does charge fees of its own that fall well below Apple’s. It takes 8% of subscription payments, a 2.9% processing fee plus 30 cents for most credit card, Venmo, and PayPal payments, and a 25-cent fee for each direct-deposit payout.”

Apple is now implementing a 30% “#AppleTax” to application developers to use their billing payment system on #Apple iOS/MacOS. From what I’m reading, most developers similar to the likes of #Patreon are not going to want to absorb paying the 30% tax for every user paying their subscription to use their application, so we could potentially be seeing developers put the 30% tax onus on the users (!!)
