Unless someone is setting out to be a professional author (very hard), nobody should write a book to make money.

When I set out to write Broken Money, it was because I *had* to, not because I wanted to. Spending a thousand hours on something that I get a profit of $5/copy for is not my best use of time.

Any time I spent on my research business revenue generation content, or leaning harder into my venture capital partnerships, would have been better on an hourly ROI basis. I have to sell 40 books to equal each newsletter subscription on my website; clearly the latter is better financially.

Almost regardless of how many copies I sell, it's a bad ROI for me. I'm overworked and the fact that I wrote a book while maintaining my existing business stressed my relationship and social life. And further, I am reinvesting most of my initial profits; the first 1,000 copy profits go to the Human Rights Foundation Bitcoin Development Fund, and the next 4,000 copy profits will go towards making a video about money and why it's broken.

And all of it was worth it. When a creator has something in their head, it's painful until they get it out into the world. I wrote this for bad ROI but because I wanted it to be out there for people to read, period.

Will I make a profit? Yes. But at a much lower hourly rate than I make on other work I do. It's a negative profit compared to having reinvested that thousand hours into my other existing work. But I consider it to be more important, which is why I spent the time.

I wrote Broken Money because I had to. The book concept formed in my head after many years of writing and research regarding money, and it would have been increasingly distracting to *not* write it. I didn't realistically have a choice. I felt compelled to write it. Part of it was altruistic; I wanted people to learn from my total monetary framework thoughts over five years of research. Part of it was egotistical; I wanted to timestamp something in the world, in physical form, and put it out there. Maybe it's the low time preference part of me; I'd like something of me to be mentionable to people in the distant future who look back at this time.

My background has been a blend of engineering and finance, with both ironically pointed toward bitcoin.

I don't care where you buy it from, and you can pirate it if you want, but it benefits bitcoin and nostr:npub1gdu7w6l6w65qhrdeaf6eyywepwe7v7ezqtugsrxy7hl7ypjsvxksd76nak if you buy it from his website. Circular economy rather than big fiat business. We've introduced a special edition hardcover with a cloth cover and dust jacket for those that prefer that premium format, only on his website. And you can buy it in fiat or sats.

About My Art

Created to be traded, I refer to my art as “Minnaar Money”. The common unit of account is One Minnaar Artwork, and many works are “fractionalized” into smaller pieces for easier trading.

I use it to challenge – and poke fun at – common perceptions of money, art, and value. What is money? What is art? What is valuable?

My art is mostly whimsical, sometimes serious and, quite often, just odd.

Hidden Treasure

Each Minnaar contains a clue to a hidden treasure.

How to Buy, Sell, and Trade Minnaars

Unless otherwise noted in the catalogue, the price and Trade Value of One Minnaar is pegged and equal to the price of 1 ounce of gold and is payable in gold or bitcoin. Fractional Minnaars trade for their fractional equivalent with The World’s Most Expensive Artwork being a notable exception.

Formless Substance

This series of large, original paintings  reminds us that we live in an abundant universe and that we are surrounded by infinite ideas and resources which we can use to create our best life.

“There is a formless substance from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe.

“Man can form things in his thought, and – by impressing his thought upon formless substance – can cause the thing he thinks about to be created.” – Wallace D. Wattles

ANNOUNCING

Minnaar Moguls - Bitcoin Trading Card Game and Treasure Hunt

Objective

Build and use your Minnaar Trading Card and Art Collection to win bitcoin and pick up more clues to the bitcoin treasure.

How to Play

- Host announces a pot of satoshis (or other bounty) and invites players to add to the total pot.

- Alternatively, a minimum contribution to the pot can be required from each player to play.

- A Base Payout amount is decided for each round of play. 1/100th of the total pot is a good amount for a regular length game and can be adjusted up or down depending on the time allotted for playing and the values of the collections being played.

- Each player displays their Minnaar Art and Trading Card Collection in front of them and the total number of pieces from all players is totaled up.

- Players take turns randomly picking a number for each round from the total using the Randomizer App or Random.org. (example: a number between 1 and 20 is randomly picked if there are 20 pieces on the table). When it is a player’s turn he is “captain” of the round.

- Starting from his left, the Captain counts clockwise up to the winning number to determine the winner. The owner of the piece that the number falls on is the winner of the round.

- The Captain multiplies the Base Payout by the Payout Multiplier (see below) of the winning piece to determine winnings and a payout is made once ownership is proven as evidenced by showing possession of their Token of Authenticity in their Liquid Wallet (download here).

The winner can then select one card from the entire table and its owner must privately show the winner the word clue on the reverse.

- Game is repeated until the pot runs dry and the player who wins the most satoshis is the winner and newest “Minnaar Mogul!”

Minnaar Payout Multipliers

1 Minnaar = 10

½ Minnaar = 9

1/3rd Minnaar = 8

1/4th Minnaar = 7

1/10th Minnaar = 6

1/24th Minnaar = 5

1/54th Minnaar = 4

1/100th Minnaar = 3

World’s Most Expensive Minnaar = 2

1/1000th Minnaar = 1

Additional Game Play and Variations

- Players can propose and make trades with other players before, during, or after the rounds.

- Players may also elect to trade word clues privately throughout the game.

- New players without Minnaars can join by purchasing one or be gifted a card to play.

- Players can agree to set a maximum number of Minnaar pieces that can be played in a game

- Large Minnaars can be used in the game although playing area may require size limits

Invisible Minnaars

Players can play with an Invisible Minnaar provided that:

- it has a minimum fractional value of 1/1000th Minnaar and the Token of Authenticity is verified by other players

they have a display case (or substitute item like a coin) to represent their Invisible Minnaar when laying out their collection in front of them.

- winning payouts are made according to their fractional Payout Multiplier value shown above.

The World’s Most Expensive Artwork: A Masterpiece by Steven Minnaar Made from 100 Crayons

[September 15, 2023] — In an unprecedented artistic endeavor, renowned artist Steven Minnaar has crafted the world’s most expensive artwork, a breathtaking crayon sculpture composed of 100 crayons. This awe-inspiring creation is currently undergoing a groundbreaking process of fractionalization, transforming it into an astonishing 80,000,000 microscopic pieces, set to be gradually released to the public at a maximum rate of 100 pieces per day.

The magnitude of this endeavor becomes evident when one realizes that it will take a minimum of 2,191 years to fully fractionalize and release this extraordinary masterpiece into circulation.

With each fraction pegged to the price of 1/200th oz. of gold, today marks a historic milestone as the first fractional sale takes place, propelling the total estimated value to an astounding $800,000,000. This achievement shatters the previously held record set by Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic “Salvator Mundi,” which fetched $450.3 million at a Christie’s auction in 2017.
