Seeing as how I lease my kennel property and that is where my dogsteading activities take place, I’m careful not to overdue it. I have a great relationship with my landlord, but don’t want to go around digging holes when I can wait a week or so for the kiln. They are excited to benefit from Biochar as well.

We will wrap our new wicking beds with some old metal roofing. (dark brown, but we could paint it or use the back side) that we have on hand and put treated boards along the top to cap it off.

Hubs wants to put reflectics or insulation behind the metal to help with heat and maybe help with freezing in the winter months. There will be a slight air gap from the metal cages, but that could be increased by attaching 1 x lumber along the top and bottom to screw the metal to. I’m thinking just screw the metal to the cages and move on. Budget is a factor.

Thoughts on whether insulating would be worth it?

Gotta get started on this with more earnest. I want to incorporate wicking beds into my mini ponds (200-300gal) in my oversized raised beds. It’s probably my main goal for summer project. Hopefully start fall garden in it.

Despite missing that basic feature and DMs for now, I just feel like this may become the best of the Browser clients in time.

Any chance it’s on mobile yet?

Results from my #biochar burn yesterday.

I work at a restaurant on the weekends and I decided to bring home all the eggshells.

I used to boil them to kill any progress and use them in the garden or supplements calcium for my chickens.

I decided to put them in the retort to see what would happen. I suspect that all the calcium remains, pathogens removed and maybe it's easier to be ingested or taken up by plants, but I have no actual evidence of this.
