There are some concepts I've learned in poker that apply to other aspects and situations of life. Here are a few that come to mind right now.
1. Don't try to out-maniac the maniac.
This means when someone is playing unreasonably aggressive, don't sacrifice your fundamentals by trying to match their aggression. It will end up getting you wrecked.
2. Don't bluff the rich guy.
Bluffing in poker is necessary to be a well rounded player. You can have key cards in your hand that make good candidates to bluff.
But when you try to bluff into the wrong person who doesn't care about the money and isn't emotionally affected by the result (the rich guy). You end up getting wrecked.
3. Bankroll management
You can be the best player in the world, but if you're playing outside the parameters of a bankroll, you increase the chance of becoming insolvent. ("risk of ruin")
You can be 💯 directionally right but then you add 100x leverage and blow yourself up.
