So this is from an older set, yes, but the quality of the set was so high back in the day (in my opinion) that it doesn't really get hurt too bad by the Mastodon upload process. It's kind of at the sweet spot. The manual pass doesn't really add too much value. Upscayl adds a sort of cloudy/"dreamy" aspect to the photo, and I noticed a bit of ghosting around some edges. I think Topaz does an okay job, mainly because it's so subtle that I can't notice too much.

So yeah, this one is wild. There are some pretty poor quality images in this set, but I picked one that isn't too terribly bad. The manual pass... helps, I guess, but it's really just basically the same. Upscayl is bonkers here, and turns her into a rubber lady. I think Topaz does an okay job here too, though. I get a bit of the "AI glow", but nowhere near as bad as the Upscayl pass.

The test here is to see how well older images can work. In this case, the set is from 2004. The overall quality of the original isn't poor, it's just an older photo. The manual sharpen pass added noise, the Upscayl pass made it a bit... hard to explain, but I think Topaz did okay?

Oof, Topaz got hit hard there, that was not what I was expecting. Upscayl makes things rubbery, as is expected.

Been spending the last few days doing some AI tests, so the next four posts will be showcasing a few different things.

I have grabbed one photo from four different sets, and will be uploading the photo four times: the original, manual sharpen / noise reduction, AI pass with Upscayl, and AI pass with Topaz.

The purpose of this is to see how well Mastodon handles the images, because at the end of the day, that's what kills the image quality more than anything. Here we go!

I can't really spend a lot of time fixing the mistakes on the original photos, so we either get quick Photoshop passes by me that barely do anything or rubber ladies. Both options suck at the moment. I really wish the models and photographers doing these modern sets paid more attention to their photo quality, it's really quite frustrating!

Oh, Across the Spider-Verse also got it's home release today too, I was watching it while posting those 50 sets earlier today and forgot to mention it then.

Today the first episode of this season of Dimension 20 (Mentopolis) released and it was so great. It's cool to see a Kids on Bikes-inspired system being used again too. 6 episodes total in this mini season, which means another month and change of great TTRPG content. Can't wail 'til the next episode!

I actually got an angry call from my oldest sister one time because I used my other sister and her kids as a test group for my cheesecake creations a few times and apparently my oldest sister doesn't like to be left out of free dessert. I'm pretty sure she's the one who stole half my caramel and pretzel cheesecake when things were getting cleaned up this past weekend.

Unfortunately, this model never left info on the SG website regarding other sources of content, so wherever her stuff ended up, I can't find it without doing some Google sleuthing. I think in the future, if I ever come across sets that were pulled from SG I'll respect the model's wishes and not try to find a source for that set elsewhere. I did that a few times in the past thinking it was SG themselves pulling the set, but now I know SG would be more than happy to keep sets they never paid for.

So yeah, as I mentioned before, that last set was a request for something from that specific model, who never made it past being a "SG Hopeful" (which is a model who has never had a set purchased by SG). Many models who feel as though they can get their photo sets purchased elsewhere will pull their sets from SG, which appears to be the case for this model. Just the one set remains on the site, but there's definite evidence that there was more sets posted in the past.

Got one post incoming, it was actually a request for a specific model, which is exceedingly rare to see but it's very cool when it happens. 🙂
