If you follow me for reports on my #solar #meshtastic node, I have an update.

I mounted the solar panel, antenna, and box of radio gear to my chimney. #Radio was reporting that the #battery pack was at 0% charge. Over the course of 2 sunny days, that rose to about 20%.

However, it just suddenly dropped to 0% again, and even before that I haven't been able to consistently see the node as online despite being in range (like, within 100 feet).

So I'm not sure what's going on. I caulked it all shut, so I don't think it is a rain issue, but maybe? The sudden battety drop didn't happen durring nor immediately after rain, so that also does not point to water damage.

At any rate, the testing will continue. This is why I put it on top of my roof first instead of trying to put it on top of someone else's tower. It's a lot easier to get onto my roof if I need physical access.

This is going to be a take that's going to surprise a lot of people about me since I'm a big Monero proponent:

Dumping on people for not using a specific crypto, such as Bitcoin or XMR, is no better than people who use fiat dumping on cypto users for not using fiat currency.

The problem I am noticing from both BTC and XMR maxis is that they only look at crypto from a lens of it being used as payments, when in reality, crypto has advanced to serve so many different purposes.

Take Ethereum, for example. ETH has a great amount of potential in the business world. Just look at things that ETH has led to like smart contracts and DAOs. If you want to be cypherpunk, you can't just focus on how you're gonna pay for the services. You gotta have the infrastructure for the very services you want to use as well. It's especially important if you want to remain free from government oppression while being able to operate in the private. ETH however is flawed because addresses and smart contracts are easily traceable from the blockchain and Chainanalysis. The closest private alternatives to ETH are the SCRT Network and Zano, both of which are essentially works-in-progress for the time being.

I hate to endorse them, but stablecoins can also potentially be useful when it comes to holding gold or silver. Right now, stablecoins are mostly used for fiat. The few stablecoins that are pegged to gold and silver require KYC and therefore are not private. I am looking at you, PAXG.

This post does not mean I endorse using ETH or any stablecoin as payment to replace XMR with. I would never use either of them because as I said before, they are not private and are traceable.

TL;DR Crypto serves more purposes than just being "digital cash." Use it for other purposes as well to truly benefit from it, instead of desiring a monopoly on your coin.

I'm curious to know how strong people make their passwords these days. What's typical for you? I'll go first.

For important things, it's 20+ characters and if that's not possible, then the maximum supported length. This includes passwords that I memorize.

For just the standard accounts, usually 12 characters. But I'm probably going to crank that up just for funsies.

It's just annoying to type in 32 characters of complete line noise in those rare circumstances where I have to do so for some reasons.

What sets #bitcoin apart from #monero? If it has better privacy, why don't we use it?

#asknostr #devstr I know Rollup can "bundle" HTML pages that link scripts. But how do I:

- Make it create a dist/ folder,

- Copy the HTML over,

- Rebuild the script tags to use type=text/javascript instead of =module (I have devices that ARE this old xD),

- Transpile the linked JS down into an ES5 IIFE so it stays selfcontained,

- Write that result to the dist/ folder?

I just want this to be my shell, use go:embed to put the whole dist/ folder into my app and do everything else using templ? I really just need the bundling and transpiling aspect to "make a shell". o.o

Got ideas? ^^

(The bundle will contain htmx, alpinejs and perhaps an extension or two as well as my CSS of choice.)

So what is a better FOSS alternative to host my code to GitHub?

I'm still trying to figure out the parts list. I have a new MPPT board that arrived and I want to connect, that might cause me to swap out the power board on the wisblock ir even switch to an entirely new baseboard. I can share them with you when I'm done though.

I currently have my #solar #meshtasic node in my kitchen window. It's completely cloudy, the panel is at a terrible angle, the light is going through a UV filter from the window, and it STILL has enough power to run.

I'm not sure it's got enough juice leftover to also charge the battery pack, but I'm impressed it can even power on given the compete lack of direct sunlight.

When I get the next iteration of it going, I'll set it up outside and take a picture.

I hate it when someone builds custom rom and then they make the gapps built in so you can't remove the spyware
