We selected outlets and wrote a script to include their notes. The feed includes participants from the Journalism Accelerator as well as other outlets with consistent note publishing cadence.
The news relay is/was an early experiment in segmenting content. Many news outlets are running rss feeds which can clog feeds. The news relay allows you to get your news while still seeing the other things in your feed.

I think this is an interesting approach. Until recently we did not encourage users to check out the global feed much on Nos. We also included some filters on the relay for hateful content and I believe porn but I’d have to double check the latter.
I would be curious to hear from folks if the issue is too much of what you don’t want to see or simply not enough content you want to see.
I rarely look at a global feed here after too many encounters of porn. I rely on the people I follow to show me new and interesting users.

Nos has a news relay that anyone can subscribe to. We recently added more news outlets to it. You can add the relay to your list: news.nos.social
If anyone has suggestions of other outlets to add let me know if the replies below.
We can spin up a bitcoin news relay pretty easily as well, so if you have ideas for that one include them below.

Every round of research asks for more, diverse content eg different types of content.
I regularly share articles from elsewhere but they receive little traction here. It’s possible people read them and forget to repost them or they zap them and forget to repost them. Or people just want memes on Nostr.
