IMO this is what drives most scaling efforts into things like LN. Yet the market began scaling using altcoins from the very beginning. The OTC/maxi approach to this was to berate \*all of them\* as scams, which is clearly an error.

The one-true-coin mentality has for a long time created a reality distortion field. The theory holds that by scaling on one coin, existing owners of the gown get richer.

There are two ways to look at scaling. Layering is vertical while altcoins are horizontal. Both are tradeoffs in complexity and security. However horizontal scaling solves several problems that cannot be solved through vertical scaling.
