No. TikTok was unique. And won mainly because of algorithm. Not format. Format only gets you so far.
Having good apps is a huge win for the Mastodon people. They managed to get the guys that made the good Twitter apps on their side when Elon fucked them over. It's just a shame they're ruined by the people and thin stances on that part of the fediverse.

True. Take a look at Chinese short video platforms. TikTok was not really the earliest or most famous. Before it there was Kwai. Same format even more popular. But look who's the winner nowTikTok definitely won on both user bass and algorithm.
