All my personalities are simple, like simple things and listen to simple music.

I’m watching the Long Way Round and it seems surreal how much the world changed in past 21 years. And I don’t think it changed for the better.

Čím víc toho o BTC vím, tím méně mě to láká…

Když přivezli jinou barvu dlažby, než jsme objednali, bez řečí začali zařizovat výměnu (nakonec jsme nechali tu a jsem rád, protože asi vypadá líp, než ta, co jsme měli vymyšlenou). Práce hotová skoro v termínu, velmi hezky a za velice slušné peníze. Rozpočet dodrželi.

Po celoživotních zkušenostech s řemeslníky se DĚSÍM toho, až přijdu na to KDE je schovanej ten průšvih…

I bet Eric Schmid believes that gothic cathedrals are just big churches. The hubris of 20th century men is unbelievable. We have not figured out almost anything from our own past, but we are sure that something we have invented a few seconds ago will have any meaningful impact on anything. I am starting to believe that our obsession with AI will be just a footnote in some obscure future historical study, if anything 🤷‍♀️

Well… Some time ago I thought that this AI shit might finally produce meaningful security requirements. And what happened? Most of security requirements I get is now written by AI 🤷‍♀️

Myslím, že jsme se o ní učili na gymplu v hodinách literatury. Když jsme probírali oxymoróny 🤷‍♀️

Filozof etiky války? 😳

That’s something I’ve been saying for a long time and not only about Nostr. One of the basic needs for every human is to be able to make mistakes. And that means the hope that they can be forgotten. Social media (and those on forever protocols especially) deprive us of fulfilling the need. I’ve done some pretty dumb shit in my life and if I were to be held accountable for everything for the rest of my life, I would have not gotten anywhere. If there is a prospect that my future employer (or clients) would be able to scour my social media accounts and judge me on the basis of what I did years ago, I’d probably think twice of doing some of those things. And that is not a good thing. We need young people to do more dumb shit. To take more risks. So they can grow into responsible adults.

Posting pictures of other people means you are taking decisions for them. That is never fine, but might be somewhat acceptable if there is a way for them to fix it. This is not the case on Nostr, but at least here it is specifically stated. It’s the same on other social media, but there is an illusion of the possibility.

I like Nostr as a technology, but please, let’s return to online forums. It would be better for everybody.

Oh, if only it were so easy…

But there are three main components to this. First, the oldest one, is protection. We can argue how effective is it (or ever has been), but the truth is that to engage in proper division of labour (and thus prosper), people need to feel secure. Physical security is primal need, but the more speciality (niche) work you do, the more secure you need to feel. Every entrepreneur knows that - the failure is integral part of success and if you don’t feel comfortable failing, you’ll never get through.

The second one is directly rooted in this. To be successful in your speciality, you need to be able to offload other responsibilities. This seems intuitive, but as the labour gets more specialised, it starts to get increasingly difficult.

And third, to be able to build on above mentioned things, you need some trust in the system. Current nation states creates this trust through the sense of belonging. The nations are totally artificial construct, but it turned out they are highly effective. If you are to place your trust in the system, you need to feel that you belong.

If we look for viable large scale replacements of states, we need to fulfill these three key pillars. Our modern society is highly specialised. It would be easier if we were at level of Vikings for example, but we are not. Any society based on any modern technology needs to be highly specialised. I sincerely doubt that any of us would be of any use in medieval village, that means if we want to build parallel structures, we need them not to be suitable for medieval villages.

Kamarád: Tahle holka, co jsem ji zdravil, vystudovala Sorbonnu, pak seznámila s nějakým Čechem, přestěhovala se sem, naučila se česky a vystudovala tady medicínu a dělá doktorku.

Já: …

Kamarád: Co?

Já: Taková chytrá holka, škoda, že nedělá něco užitečného 🤷‍♀️

If you wanted to build 10 cheap terminals to accept BTC payments, how would you do it?

Suddenly, the BTCash project I’m musing about makes a lot more sense…

I don’t know about microscopic channels, but constantly heating the water in our bodies by microwaves does not intuitively seem like a good idea 🤷‍♀️

I have a different take on this that might explain the polls a bit. There is no WW1 and WW2. The Great War started in 1914 and it genuinely took most people by surprise. They were used to wars, but not this. I honestly believe that even those responsible for the war (whoever they were, there are so many possibilities) were taken aback by what they stated. But it never ended. There were some pauses for retreat and regroup and means of war are constantly changing, but the war is still going on. That is the “sense of normalcy” you are talking about. It is now normal for multiple generations to be at the constant state of war disguised as peace.
